Not to disagree with the Car Care Nut, I definitely have high regard for his expertise and experience... but I just found I could remove/replace the fan assembly after only: -removing the seat bottom, -folding down the seatbacks, -removing the plastic carpet/upholstery behind the seats -removing the plastic/upholstery covering the fan in the trunk, -undoing the bolts/clip holding the fan assembly, + the cable -wiggling the assembly a bit installation is the reverse of removal. Saved me a whackload of time and trouble! But again, I have every regard for our friend! Great video and great advice. Keep it coming!

@@oi32df, that's why any subsequent models are much easier. Toyota learned from this mistake. With my 2014 model, you just look in the vent on the side of the seat and you can see if it needs cleaning. Even if it does, it's a 20 minute job. My wife's 2011 model, yeah, that took a while.

Thanks! Job complete on my 2009 Camry Hybrid. Video was a big help, showing what steps to take, in order. Turned out the fan was pretty clean, but reassuring to know it's done. Filter is on order. Only hint was to make sure the plastic lip on the side cushions is positioned properly when reinstalling, to the outside of the main cushion.

Thanks for the video! You have great knowledge, instruction style, and presentation. Did this today on my 08 (111k miles) and the fan was pretty clean. Very useful for replacing trunk torsion spring. My mechanic was reluctant to do the job due to the battery vent being in the way. Dealers would charge around $700. I followed the steps to remove the vent and installed the new torsion spring. Also checked the fan and it was clean. Took about 2 hours. Excellent instructions. Thanks so much.

Thanks much for the video. Another excellent video with step-by-step instructions. I just worked through this procedure on my 2009 Camry Hybrid with 231K miles. The fan was actually in good shape, but I used a small brush on each fan blade and compressed air to blow out the dust. Outside of standard maintenance, which is expected, I have had absolutely no problems with this Camry Hybrid. Even with the high mileage, I am still getting 37+ MPG. Thanks again. TS

Tip I used when cleaning my hybrid battery cooling fan. The can of compressed air was not strong enough to clean it alone. I used Q-tips 30-40, one for each plastic fan blade & a wooden skewer to get in the seams. Then use the can of air to clean up. This takes longer but the fan will be very clean.

Thanks for this! Just ordered this from a Canadian dealership, special order and list price $13.46 CAD. For our 2011. More a wire mesh filter (think patio door/window screen) than an actual particle filter. More for preventing bugs and random objects going into the intake vent then filtering dust from going in. hybridautomotive.com/install-hh1pnp/ would be the tough way; don't know what the harness is for, but included is cleaning the battfan. If there's any way to get a vacuum tube (caveat below) into the air intakes, say by removing the vent covers, assuming there's no rigamarole in doing this, that's be much easier, as I'm thinkin' anything caught in the system will be on the inflow side, as the rest will have gone out the exhaust. Caveat--I've heard vacuums generate huge static electricity, so I'd do a whole lot of searching to see whether that can be done safely and how. Edit: Yo! _Three_ battfans, one per intake! www.dustlesstools.com/blog/how-to-fix-static-shock-on-your-vacuum-hose/ Oh, I'm still afraid this would be crazy risky. Look how well not following manufacturer procedures worked out for American Airlines Flight 191. It'd be nice to have a minicam installed alongside the copper wire, though. I'd imagine trying it hands-off on a few expendable low-voltage devices and then on high-voltage ones before tackling the traction battery fan would be prudent, too. It also crossed my mind that, in a SW summer, placing Blue Ice packs in front of the intakes would help, but condensation issues might well be contra-indicative.

Oh, I see, the first thing I want to do is get a camera safely in there to see if they even need cleaning at all, because if they don't, filters on now.

Hi there. Do we need to disconnect the 12 V battery since we are going to be disconnecting the fan?
@toriless Жыл бұрын
Nope, that is why you disconnect that plug.

Is the correct filter part number for a 2020 TCH G92DH33050? How often should we be inspecting them, say every 10k miles or on a timed basis etc?
@toriless Жыл бұрын
10 - 15K for air filters, not time based like fluids.

I wonder why they did not put those 2 bolts to the inside so you don t have to remove so many pannels...

I just bought a 2007 with 60,000 miles. I watched this video and was thinking of doing this to check the fan. Then the unthinkable happened, the trunk will not open. I cannot find a way to defeat the locked trunk. I went over the owner's manual on the smart key thinking I somehow disabled the trunk. There is nothing I can find that would disable the trunk latch. The problem is the back seat release is in the trunk. Is there a good way to defeat the trunk latch? I am trying to devise a way to pull the safety lever on latch. I have removed the bottom of the back seat. I can maneuver the upper seat to see the latch but cannot move reach it. BTW I have tried all the normal ways open the trunk. I am quite familiar with Camry Smart Key System and the Valet lockout, as I have owned a 2007 XLE for 8 years. Update. I managed to release the seats through the speaker cutouts. From there I was able to use extensions on normal tools to take out the latch. Somehow a stud from the air dam had fallen in the mechanism and locked it up. I followed the instructions from this video and cleaned the fan while there.

I have a 2013 Avalon hybrid. Is the process similar?

Hi! It’s similar but not exactly the same. I am actively looking for an Avalon hybrid in the Chicago area to film a similar video with. Once I find one I’ll post it

being a former electrical engineer.. it could’ve been designed to be easier to clean.. that’s 4 hours work for a layman.. but the dealer needs to make money..

I hear you. In the beginning years of hybrid models some of them weren’t designed to have a serviceable filter but newer ones are easier because they are designed with that in mind

I recently started losing gas mileage. I usually average 28-29 mpg but now am averaging 22-23 mpg. I thought since I'm using my ac Maybe that's the reason but I drove with no ac and still got lower mpg at 25-26 mpg so still mysteriously losing gas mileage. Car now has 130k miles and fan was never cleaned and filter never replaced. Could this be the issue?
