How to replace Hyundai Accent lock cylinder

This 2011 Accent gets a new ignition lock cylinder in this vid. The original lock was getting stuck and sometimes the key would not want to come out. Replacement part from Hyundai came with two keys. You will need a small pick/punch/rod to depress the cylinder retaining pin.

Please help me if you can! I have a Hyundai Atos 2002 on which the key gets stuck when trying to turn to ignition and start position - it's totally blocked. The steering lock can be deactivated. Is there anything to do with the lock cylinder - or does it have to be replaced? The key is very worn but this problem came suddenly and without warning! Do you think the problem is in the actual key-thing where the key goes "into grip" or do you think it's the locking mechanism further "down" from there, so to speak. Please give me an advice if you can! 😪🥺🙏🙏 I should add that the key is "electronic" so it's probably "immobilizer" or something. We have some copies of the original key and they wont start the car.

Thanks for the video! They failed at stealing my gf's 2014 Elantra - replaced the back window and ignition assembly and it starts, but the instrument cluster (speedometer, fuel gauge) doesn't work now (along with shift interlock, which has an easy workaround). Tried unplugging the cluster, cleaning contacts, replacing fuse. The fuse socket isn't getting power. It did have moisture inside for ~1.5 weeks from melting snow. Any ideas?

Have you tried turning the key while applying torque to the steering wheel? Sometimes if you are parked up against a curb or on uneven terrain the wheel can be under pressure which prevents turning the key.

What do you do if the key you have doesn't match the cylinder. Pop lock said they would have to drill it out. And would run me 450. Lost my key seems whoever owned it before replaced everything key made with vin isnt a match. How could I remove the cylinder

You should be able to carefully jam something in (small lock pick tool? small flathead screwdriver?) to remove the cylinder from the assembly, then just replace the cylinder for like $25-$30 with one from ebay. I think.

I have a 2014 Elantra with keyed ignition, keyfob for doors/trunk/security, and got the immobilizer software update. I replaced the ignition assembly (cylinder and the assembly behind it that they also messed up while trying to steal it). I didn't have to reprogram a key - I use the key that came with the ignition cylinder/assembly to start the engine, and my original key/fob still works for the doors. I confirmed the software update still works.

+Todd Conley Yea you should be able too.even if you get the wheel off and the plastic covers out you still have to turn the key to remove the lock cylinder. I would focus on getting the lock cylinder to turn over. Let me know how you resolve this.

I followed the steps in this video, but I am still having problems. I can install the new cylinder, but I cannot get the key to turn. I do have the key in the ACC position. If I put the old one back in, I am able to move the key. I can move the key when the cylinder is out of the vehicle. I am not sure what I am doing wrong, any suggestions?

Unless you also change out the cylinders on all the doors, you'll use the new key that comes with the cylinder to start the car, then the old keys/fob will still work for the doors.

Take a pair of pliers (assuming you have the new cylinder in hand) press the key in and turn it

+Todd Conley Id call a locksmith. I dont know of any way to easily remove the cylinder once it is totally seized. Try bumping the key and make sure that the wheel is not under pressure by turning it side to side while bumping the key. Good luck

I got it done. I had to get a new key from a code at Hyundai. That made the ignition turn to where I could access the three screws. The rest was easy. Thanks. It was all in all a bad key and a bad cylinder. Double bad luck.

Same for my sons. They key would no longer go in after it was broken into and they FUBAR'd the ignition. I was able to hammer the key in and then turn it to ACC to be able to push the pin to remove the ignition lock.

Video doesn't work for one that's already locked. Which is kind of the whole point we are coming here most of ours are Soo bad they are locked. Cool video but you basically fixed something that wasn't even broken because your ignition switch isn't locked (fucked) like ours.

Melvin Delapena Once u remove panels, all ignition tumbler/cylinders have the same release mechanism. Search for other videos like Hyundai Sonata and u will see the process is the same.

On ours we had to replace to pwr steering pump and as soon as we pulled it out, we were able to turn the key. You could try taking the belt off and then trying to turn it

Lehew Tech Wd didn’t do much. Too much weight on key chain was problem. I just lift up on the key and turns with no problem. At least now I know how to rpl it when it finally goes. Thanks. Good video.
