Long way around..didn't need to take all apart like others said, just the cylinder

That's not it. The problem is the parking key release cable in the shifter. The key will only release when the shifter cable is in the park position. Remove shifter and find cable going into the shifter and push it in to the shifter. That'll release the key. If the HUD Box with PRND123 is a solid yellow that means your shifter is kaput. Ml320 and ML430 owner.

Mine does that. All I do is push shifter all the way forward and voila.

we didn't get any new lock cylinder all we did is we took the old one out coz thought it was a problem but the problem was a rod that goes to the gear ship selector . but if you need a new lock cylinder you can go to the dealer .

If replacing, order the lock from dealer by VIN number. It will be keyed to match vehicle. IF you swap wafres around, and use worn key.... that could be one of the the problem(s). Others include a fired anti-theft pin, a vandalized lock, etc. BTW... lock does not come out like this, UNLESS the key is turning from pos 0 to 1 and 2.

@@judithfashion the cable that has a little button on end that compresses when pushed to the park position? What was wrong with it exactly? I have mine apart now and can push the button ok enough I guess. My key will go in and come out but won’t turn
