What a first class professionally executed video. The camera work was perfect & the mechanic is to be congratulated upon his careful enunciation & regularly paced speech. The fact that "home" tools were used, rather than power tools for fasteners etc, & that each step was explained & demonstrated & the reason for the procedure is a marvelous aid to those who are not mechanics by profession. . The demonstration of cleanliness, & the importance of correct torques & tightening sequence was a definite plus. Nothing was left to the imagination , nor the expectation that the viewer understood all of the nuances involved. Each step was carefully demonstrated and very well explained. Thank you to all concerned in the production of this video......it is clearly professional start to finish. I echo the sentiments of the viewer who asked for further videos!

I've watched several of these 'DIY' KZbin remove/install videos and by far your video is the most comprehensive and a great tutorial for someone that has the means and tenacity to do the job themselves. I recently acquired a 2001 Mercury Marquis w/54K miles on the engine that has a CARFAX that reads like a juvenile delinquent's rap sheet. The engine was flushed at 34K and the thermostat and top & bottom radiator hoses were replaced at 50K). The one original owner (Mesa, Arizona) had this car maintained by her dealer and it was obviously garaged over its life time while she had it. (Yeah, the 'Church Lady' rarely drove it 'cept to church on Sundays) So now I find out that I have this ticking time bomb that makes me leery when it comes to road trips. For now I commute roundtrip 20 miles and 30 roundtrip to town from my rural ranch here in Arizona to town for groceries. QUESTION... I feel I should just get the replacement part and have my local Ford dealer install the replacement intake manifold before the OEM part fails, do you agree? Of course I expect the dealer may bump up the labor cost to a minimum of 4 hours just because they can which means the entire cost if I want their parts and service warranty means I'll likely have to rely on their replacement part putting my final out the door cost, I surmise, to be near $700 to 1,000 dollars. Choke, Cough, GAG! What say you?

The rear bolt on the heat shield over rear drivers side fuel rail is no joke. The harnesses back there and one is on the stud running through the nut you need to take off to remove it. No room at all, very very very tight fit. It’s not a joke and it has to come off if you plan on torquing the intake correctly . If you don’t have a extended ratchet like the one he used in the video with a multi pivoting head. Don’t even attempt it without one owning one .
@arezhik77743 жыл бұрын
Just an FYI. When removing the heat shielding bracket ( between the fire wall) on the driver's side just before the fuel rail removal. There's a possibility of having a smaller bracket on there just before the main bolt/nut. You will have 3 1/2" nuts on the back side to remove.

No need to remove the belt & alternator. Just remove the top bracket. Also, if you live in the rust belt like I do, you may not be able to remove the EGR tube from the valve, even with penetrating oil or heat. Alternatively, I unbolted the EGR valve from the throttle body, and just left it in place, and worked around it

Great video. It's a big help. I'm in the process of installing this intake on my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis LSE. I noticed that on the part sent by 1A Auto, the 10 mm intake bolts fit about 1 mm off center through the intake. There's also some overhang where the spark plugs are located. So far, these things have not been deal-breakers. The bolts fit snugly whereas in an OEM intake I imagine there would be more play before torquing. There seems to be enough room for the spark plugs to fit, although ideally the part would be a perfect fit. Considering this intake fits a variety of Ford 4.6 engines, I am not surprised that there is some imperfection. I will let you all know how things look once I'm finished.

Yes outstanding presentation. When I pulled my thermostat housing off to get to the thermostat , the big o-ring for the intake runner had pushed its way more into the cross over than what was still under the intake runner. One thing I would suggest, to anyone doing this reair, If you noticed both the thermostat housing bolts were oxidized very bad. Take them to a bench grinder with a wire wheel on it and clean them up. Then take a smear of dio-electric grease and apply a very thin film on the shoulder portion of those bolts. Or the next time you try to remove them you wont. They will snap off in the lower portion of that cross over.

1A Auto Parts Hi A1....I have a problem I can't figure out and can't afford proper mechanic. I have a 1998 Merc Grand Marquis with 160k mi. The engine cooling fan works sporadically. If it's under 90*F outside I have no overheating issues. What it does is lets say I have AC on and come to a light, within 30 seconds the fan kicks off and the temp skyrockets....unless I get on freeway real quick and do 70 mph with AC off I'll be in big trouble. Once temp is back down to normal I can kick AC back on and drive 30 miles with no issues if there is no traffic on freeway. I have replaced the radiator, thermostat, ECT SENSOR, COOLING FAN RELAY AND ABOUT 3 years ago I replaced the fan with aftermarket one but it has been fine up till now. The fan connector and harness have no burnt or melted connectors.......I'm totally at a loss..........PLEASE HELP ME...

Just going to hope one bolt up top will do the trick.

Hey I noticed the knock sensor in the valley under the intake, would it be wise to replace that while you're in there? I'm not sure how prone they are to failure, but it sure would s**k to have to remove all that again!!, Nice Video, btw. Great closeups and instruction!

Your video is well done and has helped a bunch of people I'm sure. As is always typical whenever I work on a car these days, THE most difficult part of every job is the B.S. trying to figure out how each different connector unlocks, followed by struggl9ng with the @#$!*&$ to come apart even when done correctly. These damn things are the worst part of any job now. The videos that I need, are the ones that have not been made yet - videos showing how to unlock each and every one, and how to do it without breaking any. I can handle the rest. I no longer enjoy wrenching on cars that have these.

Great video. I have a question. I own a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police. Two of my coils have bolts that keep spinning wether I try to loosen or tighten the bolts. So now I can't change those coils or plugs. The mechanic in the dealer where I bought the car stripped either the bolts or the bolt holes in the intake manifold. So now I have no choice but to replace the intake manifold. So my question is. How do I know whether my vehicle requires the intake manifold with coolant heated pcv or not? Thank you for your videos and help.

Just buy the Ford Racing manifold on Amazon it will fit your car perfectly.

I had a mechanic replace my intake manifold on my 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. He also replace one of the coil packs because of a misfire in the #4 cylinder . I had the spark plugs replaced with new double platinum plugs .Ford calls for platinum plugs The plastic cosmetic cover no longer fits . I smell gas from the engine bay but I cannot see a leak . Those cars even with low mileage had some gas smells but not strong. The engine idle is not always consistent when in drive . At times it is like it wants do die but does not. Old cars become money pits . I had both front power windows fixed . The blend door actuator replaced for $1,000. They had to take off the complete dashboard . The part is about $20.00 part . The labor is the problem. My brother has two Prius cars both with about 140,000 miles . Neither one has had any problems so far . I like the car for its size and highway driving . They are very old school cars. Only one wheel drives the car . Very old school. Merc only has 72,000 miles on it .

gas smell is usually the emissions valve system under the gas tank when bad you will smell gas. or the gas coupler line has failed in the engine bay. or the mechanic did not replace the injector seals when replacing the mani. There timny little rubber donuts. Its a must for this very reason. Sniff around where the injectors go into the mani. See if you see any weeping gas around the seal. They sell those rubber seals on amazon.

17:33 heat shield back bolt is the most difficult part of this job. My 4.6 2002 Crown Vic had metal plate with a 13mm and 15mm sandwich between the plate that's bolted to the block. There's a wire harness back there that blocks your view of the bolts. I ended up loosening the 15mm enough to allow me to remove the fuel line injectors. I guess make you have more than an open wrench for this part of the job.

Should I hand tighten the manifold bolts before torquing or get them kinda tight with a ratchet before torque wrench?

It should be noted that this after market intake manifold is NOT suggested for the 01+ year Modular engine. In 2001, Ford introduced the improved, larger heads, which the application shown in the video has the smaller ports for 1998-2000. For years 2001+, it is advised to stick with the OEM Ford Racing intake manifold.

Thank you. I read in forums and some shops even suggest purchasing that same one piece gasket and throwing those individual ones away. You say they will seal better. I will go with your word. But why are people disregarding these ?

+E. Ozzy Thank you for checking us out. While we do not have a video showing the replacement on a 1999 model, there could be some similarities but the sizing and orientation would be different. We recommend visiting other videos specific to the 1999 model, or an automotive forum where other owner's share their experiences. 1aauto.com

Thanks so much for posting this, is the process similar/the same for a 2006 P71? I understand I have the drive-by-wire throttle body so it's easier to remove than the old cable driven one.

Amazing work! Very self explanatory.
@gustavbabic5004 Жыл бұрын
If you have pitting marks like that around the water passage way, then I would recommend carefully using JB Weld original cold weld formula to fill in the debits. I did this to a neighbors car about three months ago, and it has been holding up fine since then. I talked to a couple of guys who work on Fords full time, and they said that if you don't address those debits around the water passageway, then the gasket may fail again a few weeks or months.

I have a 2001 crown vic with PI heads..the all plastic intake is cracked under the thermostat...I have heard that the Ford racing intake is best but it cost more...have also heard that the Dorman is not good because it is smaller and restrictive..is this one you sell comparable to Dorman? I apologize for not showing sources for what I "heard" but just remember seeing reviews
