Hi please help! my window is stuck open. Driving to local mechanics takes about 2 hours drive as I live in Oregon mountain, and no way Im gonna drive 2 hours with open window in a WINTER. I tried to force close it manually but it so hard even 3 man can’t do it. My question is, if I cut the regulator wire, and have control to manually close the window, is it going to stay or it will going to fall off? Please answer, very much appreciated. Thanks!

This was super helpful. For those looking for bolts, I used 1/4"x20 that were 1/2" for the regulator, and 1" for the window.

This video keeps on giving… 8 yrs later. My elder parents have a 2003 Crown Vic. Video helped me replace the regulator and save them several hundred dollars in labor. 10mm bolts were way to big but 1/4-20 bolts did great. Thx for the video directions.
@Galaxieman4 жыл бұрын
Thanks 1A Auto. Great instructions. Just finished. Others have given great additional comments. Here are mine: Drill rivets first with 1/4 then step up to 5/16 in. 3/8 is overkill. Remove the two window rivets BEFORE the two top nuts and lower rivets holding the track. The track holds the window steady while you remove window rivets. Have a helper brace the door with their Butt, or some similar body part, when you are hammering gently on the window rivets. 1/4-20 bolts and locknuts work fine. 1/2 and 1 inch in length. Be careful when removing and replacing the window. The top of the regulator channel wants to scratch the window. I covered it with a thin cloth when replacing the window. I had to cut the old regulator cable to move the window for rivet access. Cutters would not do it. I used a cutoff wheel in my Dremel tool. Only had to cut one end and window was loose. When removing the window you don't need to get the old rivet leavings and plastic off the window to remove the window. Easier to remove the rivets on the bench. No need, at all, to ever remove the white plastic window washers. Take this opportunity to put some silicone spray on the lower felt window channels. I hate those damn rivets! Ford...you listening? Well, now on to the left rear regulator....

I did this six years ago on two windows on my town car. It is kind of a pain dealing with the windows. I used the 1aauto window regulators and motors. Six years later they are still working. I don’t remember how much I paid, but I remember they were really adorable. Definitely satisfied, as this is a job you never want to do again.

Thanks for the helpful video. One thing I'd like to mention not covered in the video -- when you drill out the rivets holding in the window (in those two separate areas) its very possible that you'll damage the white plastic spacer discs. For me, these rivets were very difficult to break. I ended up damaging the plastic discs. If you're doing this job and need to replace your spacers here are the Ford part numbers: D9AZ-54234A44-AA (spacer) and D9AZ-54234A46-AA (retainer).

I just finished mine on my 07 driver side window, and found that the old regulator failed because the whole cable came apart! The rivets in the glass werent hard to knock out, but the ones in the door were another story. Also learned the hard way the longer bolts through the glass are a must, as the shorter ones are not long enough

Buy a complete motor and regulator assembly together as a set. I went the route of buying a replacement motor at retail and it was a remanufacture. Worked great but you have to feed it back into the cable spool and don’t pull it back out. I had two sets that unwound. My original and the replacement. Finally just drilled it all out and bought a complete kit and there was no hassle. It seriously went in in 5 mins. The glass was what took the longest which wasn’t much longer. Wear a good pair of disposable gloves. There will be grease. Get all your pop rivets out of the door inside. Use 10mm nuts and bolts which should come with it. Please buy it as a set it’s a sealed unit and quicker. It really wasn’t hard getting the rivets out of the glass. We braced the door against another vehicle wheel well with padding. No backlash from the door. Two people should help take the glass in and out.

Video was a huge help. But like a previous comment it’s a pain in the ars. I understand the time savings using rivets on the assembly line but come one. Punching a river out through glass. That’s a no. This was my driver door on my 2002 Crown Vic LX Sport. I have a 2005 Grand Marquis Ultimate I think one of the regulator’s is acting up on it too. Now I know what to expect.
@bradwentzel4 ай бұрын
I've owned five Grand Marquis of this vintage and every one has needed to have window regulators replaced. You don't need to remove the bar in the middle of the large opening to remove the old regulator and replace with the new one. I also do not remove the plastic spacers from the glass. I fold the vapor barrier or vapor barrier with sound deadening on the newer ones together to work around it. If yours has degraded, you can replace it with foil wrapped 1/4" HVAC insulation. I use five 1/4 X 1/2" bolts for the window regulator (two at the bottom and three around the motor) and two 1/4 X 3/4" bolts for the window to regulator attachment. You will need seven each of 1/4 washers and 1/4 Nylock nuts. I don't think I have ever had an electric motor fail and I run my cars for 300K miles. I do not fully tighten the two bolts each at the bottom and top of the window regulator track until I have run the window all the way up. Then tighten the nuts to lock in your alignment.

here to make sure the project this weekend goes smoothly so I'm by no means an expert . if you haven't already done the job try some WD-40 to help force that window down to punch those rivets. Know what you're talkin about just a Crown Vic thing. spray on opposite sides of the window top down and let that WD-40 work in and drip down. should be able to force window lower bit easier and pull down evenly wiggle a bit if needed too

what roughly sPkng does ‘firm’ mEn(w/bolts through window), I guessing it’s somewhere between 0 & infinity ft lbs - NEthing roughly more specific? I mEn you snapped those 2 circles together, so I’m guessing that connect at center, so a 10mm bolt & nut could be up to 15-20 ft lbs.. but that’s just a gS👋

"Put the window into place." Oh yeah? How about: how did you get the window back into the track? I like the video but there's always something these kinds of videos leave out. On my 2005 crown vic, you have to take the window out because the top of the regulator won't come out with the window in. Not enough room for the bolts on the regulator to clear the metal it's bolted to since the window sits right up against its backside. Oh, and the rivets... just pop em out with a punch and hammer. 12 hours later and thousands of useless hits and none have come out. Then I find ONE guy online who says just use a spring loaded punch. Came out in five hits and you don't even use a hammer. Easy as pie. Still need to get my window back into the track though....
