This video shows you how to install new control arms in your 2009-2020 Dodge Journey. Control arms are a crucial part of the suspension system of your vehicle. They not only carry the load of the vehicle to the wheel, but they typically also maintain its alignment. Control arms are typically large and strong, so you may be surprised it needs replacing. They contain rubber bushings for smoother rides at the cost of eventual wear. When those bushings run out, that can have a negative impact on the ride and safety of your vehicle.

Great video! Thank you for posting it! I just finished the driver's side. For anyone trying this for the first time, follow the video exactly as shown. I made two mistakes that created problems for me: 1) remove the sway bar link on both sides like he said. Idiot me thought 'oh I'll just remove the other side when I work on the passenger side'. You can't move the sway bar out of the way without disconnecting both sides of the vehicle. Seems intuitive now but I missed that step and was getting really frustrated. 2) Free the ball joint from the control arm BEFORE removing the other two bolts from the control arm. Again idiot me couldn't get the ball joint loose so I thought I'd come back to it. The two other bolts hold the control arm in place while you give it the loving bonks. I didn't realize this and spent HOURS trying to get the ball joint freed up. I had to reassemble everything and boom, six bonks later it was free. Lastly, don't use a claw hammer. I had to buy a 4lbs sledge hammer. That worked like a charm.

As you mentioned, there isn’t much room between the bulkhead and the transmission. I’m disappointed that you skipped over the removal of that bolt because I have it completely loosened and free, but there’s not enough clearance to remove it from the control arm. Would’ve loved to see how you got it free.

Honestly it looks like you don't have to loosen the cv axle. Don't know why he did. The axle was just sitting right there and he didn't move it out of the way or put any strain on the wheel end

I did not have to loosen the axel to remove my lower control arm in my 2013 journey.
