How to replace metal fascia

You get to see the simple way to replace a rusted section of metal Fascia to the back of a Garage. This video covers the removal of the existing Fascia. The installation of the new Fascia and the reattachment of the corners.

G'Day Dennis, I just replaced an internal corner gutter and the facia has dropped. I wish I'd watched this video first, as I now have to remove the gutters to access the facia to raise the clips.. Bummer! P.S. Another great video!

Good video, consider using tin snips to cut instead of a grinder, then spray cut end with appropriate spray paint, this will minimise rust attack...

I tend to use the chisel to remove the swarf off the cut from the grind because when you use the snips, they can deform the facia roll and I tend to get a squarer cut. The paint is not a bad idea and I do, do that sometimes. That is a good idea.

Great video, need to have a look at doing this and re grading for a fall to downpipe. They seem seriously out of whack ~30-40mm standing water. I gather I might need to add a downpipe or two chasing that kind of fall. Lucky your downpipe video is also excelent! Cheers

What's the recommended way to put the nails back in for the eaves? Just a punch and hammer?

you can nail through the eaves gently or predrill with a riveter bit and then nail to the wood. I do sometimes put flat head screws in as well as the hold better and are more adjustable.

Do you have a video showing best way to replace metal fascia when there are in-eave downpipes connected? I have this job to do, and am considering whether to cut through downpipe at fascia and then use a pop, or try to carefully unseal and unfold downpipe / fascia connection

No sorry. But do not use a pop it will leak. Cut the downpipe at the back by the wall. Replace the facia and gutter and then I stall a new elbow. You can see this in my how to install a downpipe video. Now you have asked I will try and do a video showing this in the next month.

hello , what screw have you used to fix the clip that you have replaced? the length and size please... also you said, that one needs to make sure that the nails, are holding the fiber cement sheets, otherwise when you remove the fascia they might fall.. so what exactly , do you make sure they are holding the fibre cement sheets... you said over time, they become loose.. so how can one be sure before , removing the fascia...?

30mm tec screws, the clouts on the bottom are easy to check the sheets shouldn't move and I you are not sure put some new screws or clouts to be sure

@@dennisperrie i have bought Hex,timber screws with seal, 12 G but these do not fit the clip, are larger than the hole, ...i have searched for thinner screws but i could not find them ... which gauge screw have you used?

hi, you said if you cant get the same kind of fascia then you need to replace all the clips, so does that mean that the design of these fascias, in terms, of the front, back and position of the slot where the hardiflex goes, and the top fixing to go on top of a clip, that they change, are not standard? for instance, i have measured the bottom part of the fascia, the horizontal distance, towards the wall and i found that it measured 40 mm, but the supplier, of the fascias, had a dimension of 35 mm is this what do you mean with the same kind of fascia, that one would need to replace all the clips? when exactly does one need to replace the clips?

To the end of the rafters and you may need to trim the hardiflex 5mm. if the brand is different then you will need to change the clips as the wrong clips will either dent the fascia or not hold it. Makers have specific clips for their fascia
