How to Replace MG Midget Dash Wiper Switch

Broken switch on the dash of your MG Midget? So did I! Or at least I thought I did. Here is a video of me investigating and then replacing a supposedly faulty switch on Margo the MG midget. It's all fun and games as you would guess, but this is hopefully a wee bit handy for any of you guys doing this for the first time!

Nice to get something working again. Is there definantly not a second speed position on that switch? I would think the three tabs on the switch (ignoring that extra piggy-back wire) would be 'Feed', 'Speed one' and 'Speed two'. Going to check Midge's setup as she certainly has two-speed wipers; useless and faster useless. All the best!

Andy... My wiper switch is located on the steering column turn signal assembly. Left side... turn signal. Right side...wiper assembly with adjustable speeds.

Should be a little pull down lever mid right of the main dashboard. But some are wired differently. Hopefully someone wirh a 1500 can help in case the dash is different !

As Steve Smith says, don't think the wiring is quite original. Still, it all seems good now. I don't think there are many cars of this age that haven't been messed with sometime in thier life. You can always find something switched out. (See what I did there?)

So it just pops out? I have a broken headlight switch, like someone tried to pry it out by the switch and snapped off some of the plastic. It works, it's just ugly. LBSC parts for the win. Just got a large order from them, saved some cash and received quality products. Thinking of ordering a hood from them. My Midget is red, thinking black vinyl top? Need to fix the temperature gauge tonight!! No wire from the sending unit (bought from LBSC) to the dashboard! What? I have the wiring diagram, but can't see the wire, so I have to get under the dashboard and look for it. Hopefully it's not in some wiring loom, hidden from sight, or I can run a fresh wire maybe. Have yet to try out the upside down head under the dashboard trick with this car, it's just a little too tight, might wind up with a fire department call to unstick me.

It kind of did just pop out yeah! I was being super gentle too haha. Yeah those guys are the nuts. Ive got a bit of a man crush on Rich Weaver, as his midget and mechanical mind are just awesome. Temperature gauge ..... isn't that the special thick lead that is wrapped in wire, and goes from the block to the back of the gauge itself? Hope you are well my friend

THe red wire isn't original, Someone has added it to take power from the green/pink to feed something else (maybe the fick switch in the vid, possibly electric s/wash). Probably nothing wrong with the old switch, there was no power getting into it due the poorly crimped wire.

Yup, old switch is still good! Just shoddily installed the piggyback !
