How To: Replace MR2 Spyder Front Struts

In this video I will be showing you how to replace blown front struts on the MR2 Spyder. You'll know your struts are blown when the ride becomes considerably harsher, your wheel alignment can't be put back into the proper range, your wheels creek when turned to the extreme. or if you can feel oil on your struts. My total cost, not including rental prices, was about $340, and was a three hour job. Remember to replace your struts about every 70,000 to 100,000 miles.

Front Left Strut: 48520-19835
Bumpers(order 2x): 48304-17010
Top Mounts(order 2x): 48609-17051
I used Roca strut mounts, as they were cheaper and better

Great video just one thing that bugged me is that you shouldn’t use a torque wrench as a breaker bar since it’s designed to tighten bolts versus loosen them. It’s probably fine if you’re loosening a bolt that’s less than 150 ft/lbs but I wouldn’t risk it since a breaker bar is stronger and much cheaper to replace once broken. Great video besides that. I like how you walk through every step.

If as you suggest spring compressors should only be used in threes why are they sold in pairs? Burying them in sand isn't going to do a lot for the top mount bearings! Easier to use the bottom "claw" of the compressor clamping up on the bottom plate.

First time I've seen them buried, and I've done plenty of shocks on heavy plant to very small ones like this.🤔 I think that your over complicating a simple task.

This is much easier with a good socket set and some combination box wrenches. Not a huge investment. Also, Harbor Freight torque wrench is stellar to have on hand and costs

lol bury it in sand. i just took the bolt off the top without spring clamps. it didnt have much pressure at all.
