AN EASIER WAY TO GET THE RACES OUT. Put the hub into the over for 20 minutes at 250 degrees. The aluminum hub expands farther than the steel races. Mine hadn't been removed since 1966, the races popped out easily. To replace the races, again, heat up the aluminum hub and as suggested, put the races in the freezer. The aluminum expands and the race shrink. WORK SMARTER AND HARDER.

Did this today. As mentioned, it was a big help. Heating it up does help quite a bit. I have a hot plate and big pot. About 10 minutes in the "hub spa" really loosens the joints. Thanks Brian!

He is hitting the old races that will be thrown away. He is using a professional bearing race driver to put the new ones in. :-)

What size was the tool that you use to get the race back in?

21:49 I realize a three year old video. Seal is installed backwards according to Pelican and other photos that use the Elring seal.

Well 30 years of restoring Porsches and I have done it that way every time.. the U part of the seal goes down into the hub, the solid flat surface goes up so you can tap it in.

@@ArrowheadGarage The Elring seals are solid on both sides for the hubs. They are not hollow on one side like most seals of this type. There are plenty of photos and videos showing the orientation of these seals. Even Pelican mistook the photo in their instructional "Porsche 911 Front Wheel Bearing Replacement" and they show it like yours. They also tell folks in the description of the photo that the seal is backwards. Just like you installed yours in this video. I would encourage you to compare the timestamp I gave you for your video, and the Pelican site. It is really frustrating trying to find the correct way to put something together and you find the majority do it one way, and some don't do it correctly and mislead. You should really look into this and pin a comment so others don't fall into that trap and install it backwards like you did. Just because you have been doing something 30 years (I am old too), doesn't mean you didn't make a mistake when you filmed this video.
