Hey! I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to make this video. We got this truck for my son and it's a great truck, but was needing this power steering pressure hose replaced, as it was spewing fluid everywhere. I am not a mechanic. I am a 36 year old respiratory therapist, mother of 3 from TN! I was able to do this myself and exponentially cheaper than taking it to a mechanic. Thank you!

Three of these videos helped me, draining the pump with the syphon is a must, also turn the wheel all the way to the right it moves the drag link out of the way so you can get your hand in there. I like the crowfoot wrenches they help and relocating the front line so it rests between the shroud and the fan puts less stress one it. You have to bend the pipe a bit to get a nice fit, leave the top fitting off just curl the hose and you can get the bottom one on, its hard to do but patience pays off, thanks for the tips.

Great video, best of the bunch on this repair! You're the only one that mentioned using a crow's foot instead of a box-end wrench, turning the wheel lock-to-lock to bleed, and making sure system was completely warmed up before checking fluid level.

Thanks for the video! Just replaced one on my 1997 Suburban and it helped very much. I've done this before but about 100k ago and wanted to brush up. The trick to start with the bottom hose first and rest the top line in the fan shroud was the key. Thanks again, keep posting!

Thanks for taking the time to put this vid' together ! Also wrench sizes, and confirmation could use crowfoot 'wrench' set. Depending on cost of them, may do both (?) lines. Actually recently purchased a siphon pump when on sale at P'A' for extracting water from a yard water fountain this fall, but never used so will likely use it for this appli'. , next chinook. ;-) Had noticed fluid at the left line connect and fluid below, so likely found why the reservoir was empty a couple months back & brakes had gone soft to almost the floor when engaged ;-) , while finally rerouting my block heater cord down thru the front air dam at the driver's side hook. That after replacing the batt' as the min. 5 yr olde I fd. dead 3 days previous at -14c . Finally warmed up by past Sat to a balmy -5c so decided to install batt' same day purchased surprisingly cheapest local source, a ACDelco gold 78vgp800 at local GMC dealership, ..... and then decided to also do the cord reroute before the next forecast cold front & snow rolled in Then a (probable pcm relearn) cruise, before shutting down at 1130ish pm. :-)

@@MidwestGarage It did help. The worst part of the job was removing the dirty hose, which I should have cleaned first, but to my defense it was 26 °f outside. I did buy the wrong hose at first so I took the old one out and took it to the store to match it up. I did this yesterday after coming back from the salvage yard. Now I have one more leak to fix where the drive shaft and the transmission meets and figure out where the rough start is coming from and I'll be good to go!

@MidwestGarage
@MidwestGarage 9 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering if it's a replacement pump. Sometimes they have holes for different applications, and if they're not plugged up with mounting bolts they will have a plug. If it wasn't tight or sealed correctly the plug could've slowly worked its way out. That's the only thing I can think of. Also, those lines will eventually get pin holes from normal wear and tear. There's a decent amount of pressure in those hoses! Thanks for the comment bud!!

+Midwest Garage Funny thing: The whole time I was doing this job, I couldn't see what the heck I was doing at the back of the pump! I had to do the whole thing blind as the only way to reach around back there was when my head was in a position that I couldn't see it. Hence my desire to see, in a video, ahead of time, what it all looked like when it went together. It took me nearly two hours, and most of that was figuring/finding out how to get the line off the P/S pump, and then carefully threading it back in so that it wasn't cross-threaded. Really frustrating when you can't see the alignments etc
@MidwestGarage
@MidwestGarage 8 жыл бұрын
Oh I hear ya, that is a difficult spot to see what you're doing. I could have done a better explanation of it in the video that's for sure, it was just easier for me to visualize since I've worked on these engines when they're pulled from the vehicle before.

It should have been pretty easy, but, the cheap China hose I bought had the mandrel bends way off so one end pressed against he steering box and woudn't align. It takes awhile to bend it right as its easy to kink it. Note everyone: avoid this brand, "Sunsong."
