why is it so important there is no air in the reservoir other than being low on fluid?

Do a battery install video on that car. It definitely sounds like it's in need of a new battery. I never go longer than 4 year's on a battery. Let's say a battery is $200 over a 4 year span that's $50. That's cheap piece of mind of not being stranded somewhere.
