Honda Accord 2.4L Power Steering Pump Replacement (2003-2007). In this video I show how to replace a power steering pump on a 2007 Honda Accord. Power steering pump failure is pretty common on Hondas and this is a good DIY project. How to replace a Honda Accord Power Steering Pump. been a mechanic for 48 yrs. got a little tip for ya.... instead of putting the belt back on and running the car, then stopping and checking.... seen a vid. on this... do everything you did up to the point before you put the belt on....put fluid in then take eletric wratchet and spin the pump in the direction that it norm. turns, check and refill if needed. then put belt on and then start the car, that way you have put as much fluid in the system as possable "BEFORE" you start on a dry pump!!!! what are your thoughts on this??????

This was very helpful as I'm preparing to replace the PS pump on my wife's '07 Accord (2.4L). Same issue, slight leak and pump has started to howl when cold. I had not yet decided on which pump to buy (a Honda pump is near $500) although I lean toward AutoZone on easily replaceable parts because they offer a very good warranty. I see you used theirs on the Accord. That pushed my decision. I liked your video. Professionally done and easy to understand.

Nice demonstration for the pump replacement Dave. I Like the advice about removing the catch pan from under the car before moving it (22:47). I can't tell you how many time my employees drain oil into a bucket and then drove over it.

Subscribed. Great video. Quick question, just bought a 2012 Accord SE 2.4L for my son; 226k miles. Looks like it’s been well kept but the steering seems a bit tough unless giving it gas and I think I hear a little intermittent whine coming from the PS pump but I’m not 100% sure. Fluid level looks good. Don’t see any leaks. Saw your other video on power steering fluid service. Should I do the fluid service first and then replace the pump? Or do both? I like your videos a lot, but with this method, why not get a couple of bottles of p/s fluid and when flushing the old fluid out you could continually refill the reservoir with fresh fluid and do the side-to-side method and continue until the fluid came out completely clean?

I do appreciate your videos and I'm sure you know what you're doing. But in this case, you replaced a perfectly fine pump; all you had to do is to change the 2 O-rings on the suction and discharge hoses on the pump. This is a very well know issue with Hondas (at least that generation). I had the same issue with my 06 Accord - it was making noise, foaming the power steering fluid and spilling all over. After changing the O-rings - everything worked fine (cost about $2 Honda OEM parts). I do agree about changing the fluid and replacing it only with Honda original (I did 3 times drain and fill). Keep up the good work

I am aware of Honda o-ring issues on the power steering lines, this was losing much more fluid than the normal o-ring leaks that introduce air into the system. Rebuilding the entire PS pump with all new o-rings would fix it for a while but even then the leaks tend to come back after a couple years. I guess I could have filmed it, but with the amount of noise this unit was making I was not going to do a seal job on this, and when you factor in labor it is about the same as a new pump.

Would the .0.4 inch diameter of the host be inner diameter? To fit the clear hose into it, the outer diameter of the clear hose will need to be 0.4 inch?

Another good Honda video Dave ordered timing belt OEM parts only and found a major item in shortage. Yes the water pump and some new bolts for the crank and pulley. I finally did locate a supplier that had everything OEM t do the job. Hondapartsnow did not have the parts. Went with Hondaautomotiveparts located up here they had everything. With a 2nd person, can you run it with the reservoir open and they keep the level above the upper hose ? This way you vent any air as well as not introduce more air into the system.

Great video. I got a question. If you just want to replace the fluid (not the pump) will running the car and pump almost dry (as you did when u wanted to drain that last bit of old fluid out) hurt the existing pump at all?

In his previous video, he mentioned that air sucked in can possibly cause damage to the pump or rack, so he said he didn't prefer to suck all fluid out of the system. However, somehow, he does it in this video. Although the pump had already been broken, but what about the rack? I am confused too.

@@BigDog50001 Thanks for the reply. I just did this job on a 06 Civic and used a new (not reman) Cardone from O'Reilly just to have it be defective. It appears to work perfect until turning the steering to full lock then there is horrible noise and vibration. Already bled multiple times, checked belt tension (used a new OEM belt) and can't think of anything else to try. I'm on the fence whether to try another aftermarket pump or bite the bullet and get an OEM one.

I need your help, so was driving coming in a driveway and bottom of my car hit hard. Split my power steering line, so went got a replacement. To take old one off with a 19mm, the new needs a 17mm. The new one do not want to thread, it lined up to the tea but want thread for nothing!

Yo, big 🐕 - when you power bleed the power steering system, with the engine on, and let the rack and pinion "go dry" does that not harm the rack and pinion itself? There's a lot of videos that say do not do this, and simply turn the wheel lock to lock with the engine NOT running to bleed the old power steering fluid out.

Actually, I did as you instructed last week, but other sources say only for a max of 3 seconds & it worked perfectly, shot out the old P/S fluid crud. They say you can do the similar thing with the engine off, car jacked up & turn the wheels "side-to-side" 20 times - that's pretty time & labor-intensive though.

What year is your Accord? I'm watching @27:07 My 2007 CRV has this similar cover on the PS pump, with one bolt holding the lower cover , but the upper hole is exposed, and there are no threads in it? I wonder if the screwball that took the pump off to replace my alternator last year put that cover on upside down, or, is your pump different than mine. In any case it appears the 2nd hole should indeed be covered!

I've read you can use transmission fluid in an emergency case but needs to be flushed ASAP.

I've seen a video where someone gets 2 buckets, takes the intake and outlet hoses off the reservoir. Attaches extended hoses onto the existing hoses like the OP does. Then they put the intake hose in the bottle or bucket of new fluid. Put the outlet hose in a separate container. Then spin the pump or run the car, this should suck new fluid from one bucket and spit out old fluid into another, do it until the new redder fluid goes into the dump container. Makes sense but I didn't try it yet.

Good video but duralast pumps are JUNK. Went through two in 2 months. Rebuild your oem pump with a gates seal kit and a new bearing if you’re up to the challenge, no too hard and there’s videos online that explain it

Hi i have a Honda Accord 2007 automatic with 170000 km. the past 2 weeks I’ve been having this issue where sometimes I start the car normally first thing in the morning then I make a quick stop and start it again and the starter cranks but the engine doesn’t start. Only after Multiple tries that the car starts. i brought it to a mechanic And he could t find the cause even tho the Issue happened multiple times when he took hold of the car. -battery/starter/alternate are good. -fuel pressure is at 50. -spark plugs were changed only 6months ago(denso iridium)+ oem filter. - after he plugged his 14k scan tool he couldn’t t find anything abnormal. -the green key goes away when the car is on and never flashes. what I do now is I turn the key to on and wait for 3 5 seconds before starting the car and the issue didn’t t happen yet this week end . anyone had a similar problem ?
