So if i understand it right, this is only going to make the later handles adaptable to the standard old valve, but does not do anything to the plessure balancing that was not available in the old valves. Can you please confirm? thanks.

Yes, this is just a handle replacement. It has nothing to do with the valve.

Would this not create too much of a torque when pulling on the long part of the handle? I would think you would need to be careful about holding the top part of the handle too to make sure it comes straight out... Thoughts on whether this would damage the valve in the long term?

Probably, I don't pull it out using the handle and it is still working fine after 1 year.

I would think only if the valve is stuck in the "on" position. Otherwise, this process shouldn't require turning off the main.
