I have a Haynes manual and this procedure was confusing. This video made it lot more sense. I commended you for showing us. Cars today are far more complicated to fix on purpose it eliminates a DIY er.

Thanks. I guess the removal took something between one and two hours, and I can imagine another two hours to put the new one back in. Yes, I have been in footwells for fuse replacements and it is not fun. Probably safe to guess that a shop needs a full day with the car to do a replacement, maybe half a day if everything goes well. This was very helpful for someone who has never watched this operation to have an idea of what it is going to take.

IF you're having trouble with the 19mm bolts going in STOP and chase them. The threads are known to have issues in the subframe. You can chase from the bottom. Also, there's a better way to get the room you need to pull the steering rack. Pull all 6 17mm bolts in the subframe and the 2 17mm bolts on the engine lower motor mount and let it hang on the ball joints, etc. It allows you to tilt the subframe just enough. Much easier than wrestling with the rack and subframe for an hour.

Thank you for that video I'm having the same problem with my 2014 civic si it was hit on right side and when your driving and use brakes it does that pull to the right and wheel feels like its gonna come off. I found out after the accident when I got my car back and I got a wheel alignment and boom there you go..

Be glad the bolts werent seized like the one Ive been working on. Transmission is out of the way since also replacing the clutch..Have it up on a hoist & every bolt has taken every bit of strength to get one click at a time on the ratchet.. 2 on the pass side clamp have broken off so far (even though they were coming off easily).. Entire process has been a nightmare w almost every bolt sticking..bent a bunch of 14 and 17 mil wrenches so far.

Ouch, been there done that. I know what you mean . I live in Minnesota and Vehicles here get rusty from Snow, Salt and lots of rain . I see this happens even when I try to take bolts on simple jobs like Sway bar links and ball joints.

Great video! I get about removing tie rod ends so to clarify remove 2 back bolts for sub frame, 2 bracket bolts for rack, 2 bolts on rack, remove 3 bolts rear mount, one bolt power steering then remove rack pulling it back.

Hey, I need to replace the steering rack on my 2014 SI sedan, do you know if I can use a steering rack from a Coupe model, can these parts be shared between models? Trying to get a deal on ebay, but it's for a Coupe model. Thanks!
@autorepairchamps11 ай бұрын
The easiest way to check is to Check with the parts department you are buying the rack from and ask them if it fits the coupe model, if it does then it will be the same or very similar process .

I think you did a swell job doing the labor and video with one guy. Very informative as well. I got the same problem with my Honda accord with no returnablity on the steering. I hit a curb, ( on the left side too) and bent my control arm. Shoved the tierode into the rack. I have no lift so it's going to be fun... you think it's possible with out a lift? Also i notice the tierode is damaged at the end of the video, could that have been the problem and not the rack and pinion?
@autorepairchamps4 жыл бұрын
If it is stiff as I described the it is the rack and not the tie rod . Even if the tie rod are bent and damaged . Steering should still work ok with bad alignment. Doing this without a lifetime is going to be very challenging. You have an accord with is a little different as far as sub frame and engine cradle size and shape. It can be done but very challenging and I think you need a hand with you .
@brokensmile84874 жыл бұрын
@@autorepairchamps yeah, imagine the sub frame is different but I bet it's the same concept. I think it will be very challenging like you said but I'll give it a shot. I appreciate the video and your help buddy. 👍

Thanks for the video. But have a question: the one you do it is a 4 or 6 cylinders. The one i working on it . I have to remove the muffler pipe plus is a motor mount in the back . And the rack and pinion going in side the motor mount bracket. So is more difficult to do this job . Anybody have an idea how to replace it without removing the frame ? Thanks

I have a 2014 accord V6. I'm hearing clunk nois over bumps and the mechanic said it's the rack and pinion but they said cuz it's electric power steering it will need to be reprogrammed. Is it true that it needs to be reprogrammed and it has to be done at the dealership?

didnt anyone try greasing the rack under the boots before replacing? my guess is a lack of grease could be the issue with the stiff steering.

Hi , Infact i am facing an EPS problem with my Honda accord 2014, where my power steering fails while driving with the steering and exclamation icon popping up on the cluster and the steering gets really stiff. I have to switch off the ignition and turn it on a couple of times inorder to get the icon go off. But its quite dangerous as loosing power steering at the highway is horrific to imagine. It doesn't happen while turning but mostly during cold start and now it does pop up while driving too. Do you think its an electrical malfunction
@autorepairchamps4 жыл бұрын
How is the alignment in the car when you drive . You will need to do an alignment

The alligment is fine infact and now the problem is all the time. The steering is too stiff and i took it to the agent where they recommended me to replace EPS CONTROL MODULE and POWER STEERING GEAR BOX ASSEMBLY which has been estimated to around $3200/-. I am extremely disappointed and is there any other alternative to solve this issue.

I have a 14 too and I’m getting a loud pop/clunk when you move the wheel back and forth in the driveway. It’s worse in the right side. I just changed the struts to quick struts and the noise got even worse. The noise can be felt in the floor board. The steering is over rough when turning in the driveway. Everything in the front end is new on this hunk o junk.
