We did the mechanical method with an Allen key turning clockwise until it stopped. The piston needed a little persuasion to go back in, but when it started moving in it did very slowly and gently. Thanks for the video.

Great video, very thorough. I already did mine, using the battery method, but did not know the (so simple) method to reset the parking brake. Thanks!

Did you use a 12v car battery?
@topgun53996 ай бұрын
This worked great on my son-in-laws 2021 hyundai tucson Worked exactly the way you described. 12v battery 15 seconds when started to turn stopped it push the piston in and that's it. Battery is the way to go. Got all the brakes done in 1hr 50 minutes. Great video. You the man. PS : Went in like butter! Lol

Great video, thank you for posting this. Not much content around this. TY! - how was the brake pedal pressure? Spongy? And did you have to bleed the brakes?
@TOPAUTOSC Жыл бұрын
If you apply the ebrake 2-3 times and pump the brakes they shouldn’t be spongy. Keep in mind it sometimes takes a bit of driving for the brake pedal the get to it’s fully stiff position. No bleeding necessary!!!

I watched you video on replacing electronic parking brakes and would like to ask you if there is anything that needs to be done inside car with parking brake level before doing brakes.

Great video thanks for making it but why not just wind the Piston back into the caliper using the slots on the face of the piston?
@TOPAUTOSC4 ай бұрын
If you don’t electronically move it back you will damage it doing that. If you meant why not wind it back using the slots after electronically moving it back. You 100% can but I find most times I can just do it by hand 😂 or a c-clamp which im used to
@dodgeking91944 ай бұрын
@@TOPAUTOSC I just did it the other day I wound the Piston back in using the slots in the face of the piston the car is fine the caliper did not get damaged

Try unhooking the battery for 30m then touch the positive and negative cables together obviously while they’re not hooked up to the battery to make sure the system is completely drained of electricity doing this closes the circuit and any lingering electricity is removed. Re-hook up your battery and see if the codes are cleared.

Can you reset the caliber piston by turning the piston itself back in, instead of removing the EPB module?
@TOPAUTOSC Жыл бұрын
You have to bring the electronic portion back first before pushing the piston back. If you don’t you will ruin a very expensive caliper
@dougwickland33034 ай бұрын
I have an urgent question. My USA 2016 Kia Sorento Limited AWD supposedly has EPB because I do not have a pull handle or pedal to depress and there is a button on the shift console for engaging it and for the hold feature. However, when I took of the driver side rear wheel off today, I could not find any electric connector that would plug into the EPB module, and I could not find an EPB module. The caliper is one piece with no screws of any kind to remove a back plate and I don't know that the connection to it is electric; the piston has a hollow core. I have taken photos of this that I would love to share if possible to get your take on what the heck I have. Really hope you see this and can assist!

My apologies for viewing this late. In the situation where you cannot find an electronic parking brake module the odds are it’s a drum system or it’s a pump for the actual brake hose in which case you don’t need to do anything you need to really make sure that this is the situation. I’ve never seen it in a Kia before, so make sure. Hope this helps.

Tried to do my brakes before i knew this was even a thing. I compressed the piston without backing off the motor first, now i have weak rear brake authority. How likely is it that my calipers are fucked even if the EPB still functions normally? Am i still able to back off the motor and then compress the piston and put everything back on to regain rear brake authority?

Also, its a 2021 kia k5 ex, FWD.

Definitely try to do it the proper way and see if it helps. But you might have just ruined the caliper and will need a new one

Hello. My car EPB clip broke while removing it to do this brake job. Any idea what part is needed on a 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe?
@TOPAUTOSCАй бұрын
If it still connects try to zip tie it down so it doesn’t come out till you can reach your local salvage yard or Hyundai dealership for a new connector. Should still work in the meantime tho

So all you need is a 12 volt car battery to actuate E brake to retract? I saw one use a charger and use the 2amp instead. I guess he didn't want to use 12v . Also i saw another video using a 9v battery with volt meter connectors. Is it safe to use a car battery? Thinking it use 12 v anyway. Just want to make sure of the volts beacause these other videos are making me think twice on the volts. Whst are your thoughts.i plan to change brakes on a 2020 hyundai tucson with E brake next week
@TOPAUTOSC7 ай бұрын
I would use a car battery and keep the voltage the same. Lower volts would just retract slower but better safe than sorry those electronic components aren’t cheap
@restinpiecesrc55285 ай бұрын
Does pressing the actuator button in engage or disengage the parking brake, im working on mine currently and it also has autohold, epb and brake light on, do the codes need clearing or is something else wrong
@TOPAUTOSC4 ай бұрын
The odds are you had the ignition on at some point with it disconnected so it read a low-voltage. If you follow the procedure correctly, you’ll need a scan tool to clear that code and everything should work normally.
