I got to removal of rotor. It was stuck. I used the two bolt hole method. The rotor stayed stuck! It was being held in by the parking brake shoes. The parking brake was OFF!, not actuated. The trick is to access the star wheel that tightens the parking brake and loosen it. I found this out after totally damaging the parking brake. You loosen the parking brake FIRST with the star wheel. It's accessed through a hole in the disk that goes through the hub at 6 o'clock. You can actually see the teeth of the wheel with a flashlight. After I loosened it, it came off with little effort with the two bolts. But also spring retainers and parts of the parking brake fell out too. Hitting it really messes everything up. Loosen the star wheel before you take the rotor off. The Vid needs this revision.

Very good. I am ready to do my 2012 FJ TTSE at 90,000 miles. Great vids on front and rear brakes. However. Let me say as a retired Union sheet metal worker, do not "bonk" anything with your palms. I knew a guy who would do this all the time and he had his Dr tell him he ruined nerves in his palms. Use a mallet or a hammer. Never use your palms as a hammer. Seems quick and easy to do that but if you are in pain in your 60's and 70's its way too late. Thanks for the vids bro.

its so important to clean that caliper. before i knew about cars, the guy just pad slapped the car, but he jammed that pad in there and it wasn't moving freely because of the rust build up. I tried explaining this to multiple mechanics they are like yeah yeah. on that note, it sometimes its just cheaper to replace the caliper bracket then try to clean up all that rust. especially if you have to invest in all those tools.

I didn’t see you install the brake pad clip. My pad kit came with 4 of these. They go on the brake pad itself. Having a tough time figuring out which pads they go on. Currently taking off my drivers rear brakes and found this clip installed on my inner pad, lower side. So many things can be going on. Either the Clío fell off or my pad kit sent me too many clips. Note: I said brake pad Clío and not the caliper clips that you installed in the video.

Curious why you lube behind the caliper bracket tins. They do not slide there, the pad ends slide on the tins. I usually very lightly lube the outside of tins where the pad ends make contact. Again, very lightly lube. Are you concerned with lube making its way to the pad surface? Thanks for the great video!

Great video as usual. Unfortunately, the power tools used for cleaning the hub are not listed. I'd really like to know what the attachment on the drill used to clean around the lug bolts is called or where to get it.

+Dan Ruiz Thanks for checking us out! We did carry this part in the past and we may carry it in the future however we currently do not. This was a sanding disc attachment, they come in different grits depending on what your needs are. 1aauto.com

I was thinking that your might be able to use a battery terminal cleaner. The diameter might not be the same but you could reasonably modify that tool to use over bolts. I'm thinking specifically the area between the bolt and edge of the middle of the hub. If the battery terminal brush is too thick you could nip off some of the bristles to thin it out. And I'd certainly use a new one. But a small wire brush would probably do the trick.

Available on Amazon: 3M CX-DR Brake Hub Cleaning Disc Holder 07545, Black, Scotch-Brite 3M 21713 Roloc Pro Brake Hub Cleaning Disc. Cleaning disks are different diameters to best match stud to hub spacing, big for trucks and SUVs small for cars. Or you can use; Mixiflor 9 Pack Wire Wheels Brush 1 Inch, Knotted and Plated Crimped Wire End Brush, for Derusting, Paint Removal, Deburring. Fast, Easy for Angle Grinder, Pneumatic, which fit into a drill. I like the wire wheel brushes, but the Scotch-Brite pads leave a better finish.

If you're just replacing the pads,do you still have to take off the rotors?

"Need to knock this rust off, that high spot could cause the rotor to sit off kilter." Proceeds to grind low spots in the surface with a 36 grit pad. Use a wire wheel, booboo.

Why did you open the bleeder? No real need to open the bleeder to just replace rotors and pads, that is an optional step only if you want to remove some old fluid or stop really old fluid from backing up. I sure wouldn't take the chance of introducing air into the system unless I was prepared to bleed all the brakes. You should use a silicon base brake lube on the rubber parts not a non-silicon caliper lube or grease. Grease will eventually swell rubber and will cause the pins to bind. You shouldn't have used a screw driver to push the boot. Why are you replacing the brake pads they looked almost new? The cross cuts on the rotors are pretty much useless after the first 100 miles so it's not a real selling point. Where is your dust mask, it really should be a part of your PPE you were talking about? Giving you a thumbs up though for the good step by step procedures and advice.

What do you recommend using to push the boot in then? Im getting ready to do this on my 07 fj and watched this to just get an idea on how to replace the rear rotors. This is my first car with rear disc brakes. Basically planning on just following what he did in the video
