Hi Brian Eslick, you made a very nice video with very detailed demonstration in how to replace the rear struts on Lexus IS 2008. I followed it and successfully replaced it in my car. I would like to thank you very much for taking your time to make this video to help people like me that before take to the shop try to fix first.

Just completed this on my 2010 is 350. The video was a huge help! Thank you... one trick I found to helping align the swing arm bolts was to put a jack stand under the arm and slowly lower the car. I didn’t have to wrestle with it quite as much...

Guys, make sure you release the e-brake. Otherwise, your transmission might be torque'ing the spindle, putting all the linkages and control arms under tension, hence impossible to put the control arm back on to the spindle. It looks easy when Brian does it but for me, one whole day until I released my e-brake!

so glad i ran across this video, I had a leaking pass rear strut and it was starting to make noises over bumps. I bought a replacement and did was attempting to start the job yesterday, but i thought the upper tie rods upper control arms had to be disconnected. Glad i saw your video because the job was much easier. Took me about 2 hours to remove and replace, thanks to your video, and saved some money too!

Great video. My mechanic recently replaced a leaking strut now the car sits a little too high and there is a gap. Is this due to not preloading the the car on the ground before tightening the suspension components?
@HowtoAutomotive8 жыл бұрын
Yu Show Lam that is a possibility. Or the spring is not sitting right in the strut. And possible wrong parts.

Hey brian, thank you so much for the great detail in this repair! Do you happen to know the torque specs for the three bolts on the top of the strut? Or does anyone else know by chance? Thanks

An alignment after replacement is not necessary so long as you dont disconnect the control arms or adjust any of that

Hi, I own a 2009 is350 with 94k miles. Car is showing roughness over the pot-holes and a bit saggy in the rear. Do you know at what mileage is good to replace them under normal driving conditions? Thanks
@MikeyG0032 жыл бұрын
You're probably close to replacing them. Mine went to crap a long time ago and now i'm at 203k on original suspension still on a 2007 is250. I'd say I could feel the harshness like at 130ish. Now car easily bottoms out and everything is shaky and loose feeling. Replacing everything tomorrow including sway bushings/ end links/ various bushings and of course the spring/ struts.

Thanks. Do you recommend the f-sport struts vs The OE?
@MikeyG0032 жыл бұрын
@@simple8818 I would say go OE since then you’d want to do f sport sway bars as well. I got the TRQ ones off 1A auto for mine for like 450 bucks lol car isn’t worth dropping that much on OE for me, it’s my beater
@simple88182 жыл бұрын
@@MikeyG003 forgot to mention that car already has the f-sport sway bars and brace installed. I spoke with the dealer and they said adding the f-sport struts would be a nice upgrade. They are built in cooperation with Bilstein and are excellent quality.
@MikeyG0032 жыл бұрын
@@simple8818 oh yeah if you got those already, then the f sport struts would be a no brainer. Buy them online and get them installed at a trusted independent shop if you’re not doing them yourself

I can't get the lower strut bolt removed. Any ideas? I have the nut off and the bolt lose. The bolt will only move back and forth a 1/4 inch. I spent over a hour using lube, chisels and punches.
@chriscalloway89994 жыл бұрын
I too pissed away a ton of time on this, the secret is that I used my impact driver to continuously loosen, while also pulling on the bolt with my fingers! Once I stumbled on this, all the rest of the bolts for the shock and wheel hub bolt came out without too much fuss

I have the 1A brand strut assembly and the size compares exactly to the original. Except the lower arm wont go up high enough to line up for the first bolt to go through the sway bar. the strut seems to be too low.

Nice video. Very well done. My 2007 IS250 front struts need replacement. Wonder how much it costs approximately? I also need to replace both front tires. Because one tire inner tread was excessively worn due to leaking strut.
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Todd Gun The labor for the struts at the shop will be about two hours. So depending on the labor rate anywhere from 85 an hour upwards to 120 an hour. Dealer replacement parts for about 225 bucks you could find aftermarket struts for cheaper for sure. As far as tires go I recommend visiting a tire store in your local area. Hope this helps thank you for watching!
@guntodd7 жыл бұрын
+How to Automotive - dealer $225 is just parts only I assume. And that's cost of 1 strut, not 2. Correct? Because dealer is always expensive is what I know.
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Todd Gun that was 225 roughly for the front to struts. But like I said you could shop around after market and get some good quality ones for cheaper. Labor will be around $200

Hi Brian, Thank you for the detailed video. I am preparing to do this tomorrow using your guide. The last comment here got me wondering, if I install exactly as you do I need to pre-load? I noticed you did not and wasn't planning on it, but then I saw some thing about putting the jack under the arm and lifting about 1/2" off the jack stand to pre-load before tightening the suspension components? Thanks for all your videos.

The repair manual says you have to stabilize the suspension by jacking up till the rear drive shaft assembly becomes level, then tight the bolts.

Hi Brian! I have a question. According to the service manual, the last bolt/nut on the suspension arm, on the wheel side (the last one you put on), need a special tool called a 'ball joint lock nut wrench' (SST 09022-12170) to torque the bolt to spec. Is that true? thx!
