Thanks a lot for this video, it was very helpful! One thing that will make this job a lot easier is if you jack up the front end of the car and insert jack stands on both sides before you start. If you don’t do this you might have trouble pulling the struts out once all of the bolts are removed.
@ericvangrevenynghe8873 Жыл бұрын
@Jonny: great video, thank you. @RRofick 100%. If only the side you are working on is lifted, the anti-roll bar will do its job. It will prevent the knuckle to go down enough and fully release the spring. If the spring is still partially loaded, even with spring compressors, I did not manage to remove the strut assembly without lifting the other side.
@G-Tech103 жыл бұрын
Thanks, looking into the kyb's wanted to see how they look. Being a Toyota tech, quick thing, letting the knuckle hang by the speed sensor wire is not good, 1 10mm bolt and its out of the way so it doesn't break.

Any advice on the upper control arm being seized in the knuckle? I was hammering and wd40’ing for two hours. Tried a heat gun, Half used a BJS but it kept sliding off…
@G-Tech102 жыл бұрын
@@Magicstockton Hmm, not sure where your hammering, but try putting a non factory nut on the upper ball joint, just enough so the threads dont show, and hit the nut. that knuckle looks like its perfect for ball joint separator, wonder why its not working.

Didn't you notice that the duster is absent, like completely? That's why it started leaking, cuz dust destroyed the seal. And instead of putting in a new one you just put the old torn one on the new shock... This one will leak soon too. Is it worth saving a couple of bucks? :)

I have a 2010 Lexus IS250 and I was contemplating on getting the KYB Gas-A-Just monotube strut set but since you said your blew out now I’m a little concerned. Are they durable? Lastly, do I just get the struts? I use the original shock spring correct?
@flyinfinity87454 жыл бұрын
Did you not have to remove the stabilizer link? You can see it at 4:08 behind the strut and socket that connects to the lower control arm (the short rod that has 2 circular ends). I followed this video but cant get the strut out, as soon as I got the lower strut bolt off, the strut expanded and is pushing down into the lower control arm. I cant get the lower control arm to drop any lower and Im not sure if its being held up by the stabilizer link.
@flyinfinity87454 жыл бұрын
For anyone who has the same issue where there isnt enough vertical clearance to get the strut out, you just have to make sure the whole front end is jacked up and not just 1 side. This allows the lower control arm to drop lower because the sway bar tension has been relieved.
@SpicyTurkey83 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the great video man. I was able to replace both front struts with your video and both rear struts with another video. Quick question. The left upper control arm bushing bolt just keeps spinning forever. I can't tighten the bolt. Because of that rubber boot, I can't even see what's going on. I tried jacking up the lower control arm like you said but it's still spinning. The right side didn't do that. Any ideas?

Hi, I enjoyed watching your video. Isn't kyb just-a-gas soft? I have a fsport is250. I felt that it was soft when I replaced it. I replaced it at 160000 miles. However, the problem is that the spring has not been replaced. So I wonder if it's soft. I asked kyb and they said just-a-gas is a hard strut.

it's the same process as any other ball joint. It takes maybe 3-4 hits, I usually use a mini sledge hammer, something heavy, then it clicks right off.

Always replace in pairs for anyone watching. Struts affect the braking and handling. Just replacing one isn’t recommended. And the proper terminology is “strut mount” not “top hat”... other than that great video for first timers wanting to do a little shade tree.
