How to replace rear (tail) light bulbs on VW Sharan Mk2

This video shows how easy it is to replace rear (tail) light bulbs - brake, indicator, reverse, fog light and just tail light on Volkswagen Sharan Mk2 (second generation 7N model).

Thanks a lot for this video! I have warning (2012) Sharan) for tail light and reverse light on right side (in the door). Replacing bulbs did not fix it and none of the door lights are working on the right side, neither right side of third brake light (LED). Could it be a fuse or perhaps a problem with the wiring?

I'm not sure if there's a fuse for those lights, canbus switches them off if there's a problem. Maybe wiring, also check bulb contacts, so there's no water collecting and no oxidation. Don't know the solution, sorry

Hi, Thank you for all videos, just need to know if you can help me with something. I want to install an aftermarket wireless RVC (reverse camera). The camera need to be connected to the reverse light wire and Earth (GND). Which wire is live and earth please. Regards

+Farid Khan In that connector (in rear door part of light) you have 4 wires, 1 of them is thicker than the other 3, so I would believe that logically it would be ground wire. One of the remaining 3 powers reversing bulb. Which one of them, I don't know - it's difficult to track there. The other way you could connect on to metal bits on both sides of reversing bulb... However either way you connect something to reversing light bulb - would that not mess up resistance and mislead ECU and make it think that bulb is faulty? Is your RVC compatible with this Sharan?

+WheelsAndMotors Thank you for your kind reply. The RVC camera is compatible with my car (VW Touran 2012 1T3), but it's an aftermarket camera and not the OEM. The trunk door is exactly the same like this Sharan MK2. I noticed that on the other side of the door the wires are of three different colours and not all white like the driver side. The camera need to be connected to a live and Ground. I don't know if by connecting the camera it will mess up resistance and mislead ECU and make it think that bulb is faulty. I am waiting or a reply from VW and then decide . But in the mean time if you can verify yours car other side wires and let me know which wire is live. Regards

+Farid Khan Just had a look at my left light. I have 3 wires in the connector, because I have fog light only on the right. So that narrows it down to 2 middle wires. Yeah, wires on the other side are also all white. I think the best way to find reverse light wire - use voltmeter. The wire connections have metal bits. The safest way is check it this way. Make sure that you use it voltage mode though, not in amperage. I'm not in my garage now, so I can't test it on my car. Anyway - our cars are not exactly the same, so voltmeter would give you the best answer.

If that light is not working - big chance that actual LED string is faulty. There's one thing - spray jet of the rear window washer system is integrated in that 3rd brake light bulb. I'v never done it myself yet, but, accordingly to manual, it's removable with plastic wedge (pry out) and then disconnect washer hose and electric connector. Whenever I scan my car, it also mentions auxiliary heater fault. Can't be bothered so far, whenever I'll have more time, I'll look into it.

It's easier than on Sharan, because you don't have to remove rear lights. I'll make a video about Sharan soon. Remove bolts from inside wheelarch, then few from the bottom edge and then there's one bolt on each side in the corner from bumper cover into wing. In Sharan you would have to remove rear lights as well, because there are some bolts underneath. I don't have a Touran, so you can check that on practice.
