Its amazing how the drum brake components magically remove themselves and then replace themselves. Love it when vehicles do the work for me.

Unique Chevy idea the axle is half the bearing and is worn as opposed to press on, you'll see the wear groove. The bottom of the pumpkin is full of solid metal goo. Scoop that out and wipe. Once done you'll notice no more shaking.

I had a piece of 1" cold rolled steel round stock 9' long that went right through the differential and tapped the bearings and seals out with a five pound sledge hammer without even damaging the bearings or the seals. No problem and regular steel or aluminum round stock would have done the job also. Just make sure the round stock is clean before you stick it into the axle housing.

you can buy a bearing race and seal driver kit from harbor freight, the kit comes with multiple different sizes of those circular drivers. just use the biggest one that will fit into the bore for the bearing and an oversized one for the seal

I recently replaced my axle bearings and seals. I noticed on the axle bore where the bearing is pressed into, has a rough spot inside of it, Would this cause any noises? Like a deceleration roar? I went ahead and pressed the bearing in since it was only the back of the race that was touching the rough spot. The spot is at the 12 o clock position, i suppose from the load of the axle..

Hi there. I'm trying to order the right size bearings for my 1996 tahoe. Are they 8.5 or 8.6 or what?
@SuperchargedDragonball350z2 жыл бұрын
i know this is old and you may have found your answer, 8.5 is up to year '99 (but this year is a transitional year and could have either) 2000 and up is the 8.6

I will say this you could have just pulled that bearing out and the seal would have came with it someone with less experience will tear up an axle housing trying to chisel the seal out like that
@lancesmeal88532 жыл бұрын
Made no sense to destroy the seal ... it didn't come out by hand so just use the bearing to pull it out (both at the same time) ....
