Your video may be a few years old but, it is the best one I found. I removed the rollers went to ACE and $20 and a couple of hours work it's done works perfectly. I really appreciate it. This was the perfect video at the perfect time. I had watched other videos and they all involved taking the door out. My problem was that our door is huge and far too heavy for me to lift out by myself (I've got no one to help me). So, I did this technique yesterday and it turned out great. I must say it was a little scary taking the rails off, but following these instructions gave me the confidence to do it. Thanks for a great tutorial!

Great tip, but you are wrong about using the silicone spray, as that too will attract & hold debris. No lubricants should be used at all, best to crinkle up a small piece of wax paper and rub all contact areas.

Thank you so much I just replaced rollers on sliding door using your instructions I tried before and none of the videos on KZbin had the type of doors I have. It was very easy without taking the door off. My roller assembly was different it had tabs that stuck into square holes but I just pried the frame enough with a screwdriver and it popped out! I went to ace hardware to find a new assembly but they were all wrong but they had a 2 pack of just the wheels the same size I popped the old one out and the new one in and didn’t have to find the exact one. Once again I thank you 🎉

Big BIG thanks for this tutorial!!! I had tried fixing my slider a few months ago and another video said I needed to take out the stationary glass AND then the slider. I tried that but then was afraid of possibly breaking the glass. So a few days ago I called a glass guy and he said about $200 to replace the rollers. I had set up an appointment but then happened to find your video. I followed all instructions and was able to replace both rollers for $15! And with a feeling of accomplishment! All the tips helped too, especially making sure the door is lined up with the wall so that it closes correctly. One thing I would add to all your tips (that helped me at least) was when I'm hitting the frame to come off, I was hitting real hard and it wasn't going any further. So I started hitting it slightly further up the frame towards the top and that did it! Thanks again!!

Thanks a bunch for taking the time to record and post this video! I followed your instructions and it worked great! Once I pulled out one set of the wheels I found a matching one at a local hardware store and bought two sets in order to replace both sets on the lower side of the door. I also noted missing rubber door stops, one of which was jammed into one of the wheels. I found similar ones at the local hardware store and silicon sealed them into place. The door slides so easily now that I swear it's power assisted! The new rubber stoppers mean that the door stops exactly where it should and does not impact the metal frame, now the latch even works better as the closed position is correct. Again, many thanks for taking the time!

This is the first comment I ever left on utube cuz it's absolutely a life saver!!! I had already started hammering away at the tracks and thought about just whacking everything because there's just no way to take the 40 years old aluminum door off to replace rollers. I had no idea what rollers were inside so I follow this video and first removed the side frame then used long nose pliers to pull out the old rollers. Used a pry bar to prop up the door to make it easier to pull out the old rollers. The old rollers were Prime Line D1525 with 1 1/2 inch rollers. I actually used D1552 with 1 1/4 inch tandem rollers which I just push into place. Put everything back and the door works like new! I am sure the contractor and his crew would appreciate it when they start remodeling my kitchen in 2 days lol! 6 thumbs up!

I almost started removing both my sliding door and my fixed pane to do the roller replacement (as some other videos showed) but then I decided to look on KZbin a bit further and came upon your video. This shortcut worked perfectly for me and saved me a ton of time. It also saved me from having to get help from a friend to lift our huge door. Can’t thank you enough. New rollers are just what our slider needed - WD-40 wasn’t cutting it anymore. The old rollers developed flat spots and were caked with dirt and dog hair. Works so much better now.

I doubt you will ever see this but I had to try. I just followed you vid and did 2 doors, I have 5 in my house but these 2 are hi mileage..the first door I was a tad worried, but everything went fine, I just realized you have to be careful with the U channel rubber seal gets back in place, I used some wd40 to help the glass and seal slide back in and everything went perfectly. I had to back up a few time to make sure that seal stayed in place but was Perfect ending! Those wheels been in there for 38 years and I hadnt used the door for a couple years because I did not want to take the entire door out, LOL...then I see vids where they take the entire door out then do the exact same thing you can do with the door still in! Blows my mind! I cannot thank You enough!
@roadglassandmore9064 Жыл бұрын
I’m glad my video was helpful! Also, glass cleaner is better than spraying wd40 on the gasket, glass cleaner will dry out while wd40 will stay on the gasket and the frame may pull of if you pull on frame too hard.

A huge thanks for this video. I’ve been needing to do this for at least the last two years. More recently my glass sliding door feels like a lead weight. I had a handyman come out and look at it and he said I just needed to clean my track and didn’t charge me anything for the service call. So I did just that like I had in the past and obviously that wasn’t the solution. After securing the two replacement wheels from Home Depot along with a silicone spray, I was able to knock this job out in about 45 minutes. I was also lucky to have just the right size block of wood to separate the frame from the glass which was quite challenging. A few good strikes with my rubber melet and it came loose. My glass door slides as smooth as ice now and I saved myself a few hundred bucks in the process thank you again.

FYI to people: you may have a door like mine where the roller is screwed in to the bottom moulding piece and it can't be removed without taking the door out (and taking the bottom piece off) even though the latch-edge moulding slips off like it does in this video. You can only barely see the screw head when the latch-edge was removed. If you follow the video and the roller doesn't *easily* slide out with a little bit of prying...it's screwed in. It's a two person job to safely get the panels out too if it comes to that.

@robertbelden15842 жыл бұрын
@@mickbrown815 You may want to try either Amazon or EBay for your patio door handle and lock assembly. I recommend measuring the length, screw hole distance apart, as well as the latch that goes on the frame. You should be able to find one just about identical. Not sure if you live in the FL area, but a lot of the original builder-grade patio doors installed were from a company called Nu Air. You also may be able to see a sticker/label or engraved brand name somewhere on your doors- also, you sometimes may see it on the screen slider as well. Hope this helps and good luck! Robert

@roadglassandmore90643 жыл бұрын
Mainly on weather stripping as it is a main friction point . There is no real need to spray the track ( but doesn’t hurt anything either if you want to spray it) with new wheels as they roll freely on top of the track.

Great video for a very common problem. I would only add to fully remove that side frame then clean & lube the gasket (a wipe down with silicone or soapy water works great) before reinstalling the frame will ensure the gasket is not pulled or torn. Evaluate the rail the wheels ride on as well (take a kitchen scrub sponge and clean your rail! Dirt gets packed on the rail making even new wheels roll a bit rough). If your rail has flat spots, Prime Line sells a snap on repair rail that works great!

Now can you do a video on the sliding glass screen door rollers (you don't have one on this particular sliding glass door). This is a serious request. My grandson was rushing through the house (toddler) and did not pay attention to the screen and ran into it and cracked the wheel itself as well as the bracket for the screen door. It was inoperable and and been in the garage ever since. Thank you.

OMG so much easier than removing the whole door, and the stationary door!!

Yes, but not all the doors are the same, few brands have their wheels screwed through the bottom rail, but most aluminum doors are just like in this video!

Perfect tip with the lubricant. Far too many people use regular WD40!

Great video, and technique. I am replacing tandem rollers with steel wheels and steel bearings. Should I lubricate the bearings on these Prime-Line rollers before installation? My concern is that any lube will attract dust and dirt. Your opinion?
@roadglassandmore90642 жыл бұрын
Yes, I always lube the wheels before installation, use clear silicone spray, it will not attract dirt!

My patio door had a different design, the side bolt was also for adjusting the roller (and door) height, and should actually not be removed. Instead I had to split open the frame around the glass, which exposed a screw above the roller mechanism, to release it

Is your door white in color by any chance. There are some doors that are different by a design, I will try to post more vids on different style doors!

Can I pop the door out, lay it down and remove the wheels without taking the frame off? Thanks for posting this video. I feel empowered to try it.
@roadglassandmore9064 Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can , but taking door out is not always easy, and in some cases you will still have to remove bottom frame/rail to get the wheels out.

Thank you for the great video. I will do the same thing as you did because I have same door has roller problem, very hard to open and close. I saw some videos need to remove the door out first, that is too much work for one person due to the door is very heavy. Your video just perfect and easy way to change the rollers. Thank you very much for sharing.

Im glad I was able to help! I used to take every door with roller problem completely out for 5 years , until I went to work for different glass shop and one old timer showed me this trick

@@roadglassandmore9064 I tried to do today, but I had hard time to pull the old roller out even I jack up the door to the air. The old roller stuck inside won't get out. I try when days off.

You are marvelous. Your easy step by step manner is a treat. After seeing what goes into fixing a sloping glass pane - I will eventually call the glass company. Right now I have a small piece of cork in the top of the track stopping that gap effect. Not the best but if I got out the rubber mallet and then played around with the weather stripping I would need a new door. Thanks anyway for a beautiful job explaining what needs to happen. And I couldn't use silcone spray to have the door slide smoothly as the door that tilts would slide and lock me outta the house. M.

Great video! I have an even easier fix. I watched a bunch of videos and was stressing about taking door Off and removing frame etc. I had to use my whole body to open and close the door. While trying to adjust the wheels, I finally noticed that the wheels wern't on the track at all Check that first! DUH ! I did clean and silicone the track. Okay not be able to open with one finger but now it's his one hand!
