Got a 1 year old 1380AE and had the shear bolt break today. Thanks for the video, saved me a lot of time.

My Honda 724 is now 18 years old and runs great. I'd replaced 2 auger shear bolts so far. The solid 'pins' have never failed and that's a good thing. It's the 6mm 'shear bolts' that shear off. Note there's also a shear bolt on the main impeller shaft.

They are tanks. Looks like when you do need to replace the shear bolts there are 2 different types required for this snow blower. I have the same machine and its taken me 3 years to figure this out.

Your a lifesaver man! My hometown of Erie PA just got a record 53” snowfall overnight and our snowblower wasn’t working lol of course the Service company was backed up so had to fix it myself. Saved my butt. Thank you!!

Can you use a regular 6mm bolt in stead of the Honda one that goes through the auger, since it's the pin/bolt that goes through the shaft that normally breaks, not the one that goes through the auger? At least one would assume that to be the case because the latter bolt is many times farther from the center of the shaft, ergo the cutting force that it experiences is many times smaller, thus one would not expect it to break first, and any regular bolt should do?

Thanks for the video. Like your client, my problem was not with the shear pin, but with the shear bolt. My problem is that the hole that the bolt goes thru on the bracket, does not align with the hole in the auger. Any help with that would be appreciated. Thanks

As you can see by the video, the auger spins freely so you should have no problem lining up the hole from bracket to auger. Maybe something is bent?

Great vid Brad. Do you know what grade that 6x16 metric bolt is? I would like to get one from the hardware store and don't want to break my gear box with a too hard bolt. thanks.

I'm not sure what the grade is from Honda but if you are purchasing from a hardware store try and get grade 2 if they have it. The best bet is to order from Honda.

Geez look at the state of that machine, the owner did not take good care of it. The impeller is rusted like hell and it looks older than mine 18 yr old hs 970 which is used a lot! Too bad. Great video and very informative.. Is the auger under tension, as one of the shearing pins broke off and I cant seen to find the hole in the shaft where the pin is suposed to go though..

Sometimes the shear bolt doesn’t fall out of the hole in the shaft and it may be hard to find it but it is there and you will need to punch it out.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thank you, I managed to find it, but it was a real pain in the Ass to get it out. I had to drill out both ends of the pin, before I could punch it out. Doing so in - 22c was not a pleasure, but now its fixed and runs great again. Huge thank you for your help😀👍
