How to Replace the Battery on a Subaru Crosstrek XV (All Years) | Won't Start in Cold Weather

Our 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Limited decided not to start today. It only started having weak start issues once the temperature dropped below freezing in our area. So I decided to make this video to show you how to replace your battery on (any year) Subaru Crosstrek XV.

All batteries pretty much made by Johnson Control, they just put different sticker on it. If the car assembled in Japan you may have a Panasonic one.

My 2024 Crosstrek manual says Q-85 (Type B). OEM battery has me nervous. What aftermarket battery would you recommend over the OEM junk they give us.

Does disconnecting the Battery affect the electronic safety features like eyesight, and other warning features. No reset needed after? Thanks.

I keep my battery connected to the Battery Tender Junior to keep it fully charged. The mechanics at Ganley Subaru also do.

Unfortunately this is not an option for me since this vehicle is usually parked in an apartment complex open lot, 50 FT away from my garage. Would deff me a good option if it was in my garage year round though!

So the replacement Subaru battery is a US-made battery, not Japanese like the original? I think the OEM battery is something like 430 CCA so 550 is at least a step up. I am replacing ours today (after just two years and three months) and I went with a 640 CCA AGM replacement, we will see how well that works. It's odd that the OEM Panasonic battery is so poor as the two AGM Panasonic batteries I used in my 1990 Miata lasted me 9 and 14 years each vs the 4 or so years out of the American AGM batteries I have been forced to buy after Mazda stopped importing the Panasonic.

My 2021 Crosstrek doesn't come with the battery terminal covers. Which is just as well since I connect the battery tender.

I might be wrong about that. I did find a red terminal cover on a shelf in the garage.

thats not the same battery, thats why it was cheaper
