I understand the logic behind Subaru only having an internal filter on the CVTs. There isn't as much friction material like we see with the EATs, so changing the fluid on time should be the only service you need to perform. But there is just something about changing a filter that puts your mind at ease. 👨‍🔧 🤷‍♂️

Apparently the SVX originally shipped with an internal filter but after several clogged filter-related transaxle failures, unofficially attributed to customer maintenance neglect (especially in the American market), they opted to remove and replace it with a simple strainer to prevent the problem in the future. Interesting that they moved to an external filter on some later AT models which, judging by one of your other videos, once again causes transaxle failures from customers neglecting to change them. Follow your maintenance schedules, people!

So I have a 1999 Subaru legacy L sedan 30th anniversary edition, the A/T oil temp light is always flashing and I have a check engine light for transmission duty solenoid A, do you think it's the solenoid or could it be a bad TCM issue, I don't get why a solenoid would cause trans oil temp light to keep flashing as soon as the car starts up, but I will replace the solenoid to see, because the car isn't shifting gears at the moment, but thanks for clearing up the filter confusion I was also thinking it was a oil pick up tube with a mesh on it but wasn't sure.

Hello Mr Subaru. My 2010 Outback 6spd MT is making a sort of noise when I put the car in neutral to change gear or because I am fully stopped at a red light or so on. I notice the sound more when I am in town and on low speeds and the sound seems to be more noticeable outside rather than inside the cabin. The sound seems to be more of a "Thud" then a "clicking" sound. Would anybody have a clue as to what might be the issue. Thanks to anyone who helps.

Someone showed me a parts picture of a genuine filter in the 5eat p/n: 31835AA030 and looks to be a cartridge style but said only way to get to it is taking out the transmission, I've never heard of this and asking my parts at work and calling up local subaru parts searching for filter they said there isn't one... Except what about this?... Am I being lied to? Is it because Subaru never changes this internal filter?

$25 a gallon OEM is the current rate, doing a flushed would easily double or more? So guess the only reason why I would pull it and clean it is to actually removed the gunk that sticks and usually requires some elbow grease. I pulled plenty of pans and have dealt with that gunk. Idk if it’s worth the trouble to removed but might do it down the line just feel so weird that the only real filter requires to removed the transmission and the dealer tells you the fluid is for life. You should drop this link on your CVT video

I have an 09 Forester with a 2.5L EJ253 , just to be clear there is no reason to remove the pan unless there is a leak or more work to do inside other than simply changing trans fluid? And to get ALL fluid out youd have to drain and refill about 3-4 times? Thanks in adavancce1

It's totally off topic from this channel, but I'm adding a spin on filter to my Ford E350 chassis C6 transmission since it's getting a rebuild. Stock, it had no magnet in the pan and only a screen "filter". Maybe it's overkill but for about $50, I figure it's worth it. A $4 Motorcraft oil filter will fit the filter head so it's stupidly cheap to replace the filter annually. I do my own oil changes so there won't ever be any confusion as to why there's a tiny car oil filter under my 6.9L diesel. The transmission has lots of internal damage from age and probably the lack of filtering.

O. Owners that have gravitated to other brands in lieu of spending 6K for a new tranny? 30K for atf change seems prudent if you drive the Hell out of it, but not for everyday commute. Either the tranny is kaput from new or under lubed due to size/quantity or were under engineered? Stubby just keeps on putting out crap cars and public is too stupid to grasp what is going on-Continious improvement or Failure?@@MrSubaru1387
