just to add for Euro vans if you have air con and a cooler near the bottom pulley. you can only do this all from above and if you have rear air con the belt is different as well and is a merc only part. yup I found out the hard way. there is 2 different belts as well for air con euro vans. small pulley and big pulley on AC unit. the normal one you can get anywhere but the big pulley belt isn't available as easy. genuine belts last much longer. oh and the tension pulley is different on euro vans with rear air con.

Is there a pin hole for a dowel to be put in place at the tension pulley to hold it in place instead of using the breaker bar and 17mm socket to hold it down?
@FloridaVanMan8 ай бұрын
There is a pair of holes you can pin the tensioner fully compressed, but you'll need the same tools to compress the spring so you can pin it. Trying to put a pin in those holes is extremely difficult without removing the radiator stack to see what you are doing. It can be less difficult to use an Allen-key (hex key) bent 90 degrees, poking the bent end into the holes, but I don't see how this difficult task could be preferable.

@thomasgarrett6392 Жыл бұрын
I just replaced my belt and it seems as though there’s play in it is there supposed to be play in it?
@FloridaVanMan Жыл бұрын
A few possibilities exist. The belt can be routed wrong and almost fit. Different Sprinters have slightly different size belts, but it is most likely the tensioner isn't springing back. To test this take the belt off one pulley so the you can swing the tensioner freely with breaker bar. Does it feel like it is consistently pushing pressure against the wrench, or does it have weak areas where the spring doesn't push?
@thomasgarrett6392 Жыл бұрын
Yes! I found out that my routing was just a little bit incorrect. All good now thank you for responding.

Had a shop replace belt, tensioner and pulleys with OEM. On hot days the belt still squeals when I start the rooftop AC. Any ideas on how that can be avoided??
@FloridaVanMan Жыл бұрын
Most rooftop a/c units run on a second belt with a lousy tensioner. Does your van have one belt or two? Is the second belt wide like the other or is it a narrow belt less than half as wide as the other?
@JasonLeeCalifornia Жыл бұрын
@@FloridaVanMan oooooh. I do see another belt towards the bottom. It's a narrow one.

@FloridaVanMan2 жыл бұрын
Two Belts? I'm not familiar with the RockAuto kit and I am NOT a fan of them for anything Sprinter related. If the belts are similar is size the kit must serve 2 types of engines. The OM612 (2002-2003) & the OM647 (2004-2006 USA models) require slightly different belts. If the two belts are very different the second one would be for rear a/c and a second compressor.

@@FloridaVanMan They can be an absolute pig, heat is your friend, heavy motorway driving could be the key, I know you hate it however, I left the carburettor cleaner in the recess where the injector sits, I surrounded the top of the injector with tissue paper to stop the fluid evaporating then left it overnight, when I went back the next day the gunk dissolves into an oil like substance which I then sucked out with blotting paper. Your engine looks spotless, did you just paint it or did you do a rebuild? As ever best wishes from Scotland.

@@vu533 Close but not quite. 02-03 need the OM612 engine to work with the computer. Swapping the computer leads to ABS, SKREEM and key chip. One thing leads to another and you are better off buying a different van, rather than fit an OM647 into an 02-03 body.

'Twas a little more involved. You must have the longer bolts for the OM647 intake manifold, an EGR, and a "S" shaped hose to run between EGR and aux water pump.
