This is a basic tutorial showing how to replace the circuit breaker in a DeWalt DW735 or DW735X thickness planer. The breaker can become increasingly sensitive to heavy workloads after tripping several times, and replacing the breaker is the best option at that point. This is an easy procedure that can be completed in ten minutes with some basic tools and an inexpensive part. Save yourself some money and two trips to the service center and do it yourself.

Excellent video with some good helpful hints. I was about to trash the planer because I was sick of waiting for the reset. Glad I found your video!

Outstanding step-by-step instructions! You would be surprised, (well, maybe you wouldn’t) at how many people would screw up simple instructions.

As American made products are also distributed world wide, it is easier for production to just make everything metric! Ford was one of the last holdouts....

Any reason my planer went from normal sounding to like a loud whirring sound? I know I need to replace the breaker and appreciate the video...was hoping you would have insight to the whirring thing.
@TheSnekkerShow
@TheSnekkerShow 2 жыл бұрын
I've never experienced that, so I'm not sure. Is it still planing okay? The higher pitch might indicate a sudden loss of resistance, like if a belt or chain broke.

@@TheSnekkerShow it planes fine. I do need to replace the breaker but other than that it does fine...I didn't want to invest in a helix head for it unless I knew it would last. I appreciate you getting back with me so quick

Was your planner prematurely breaking the circuit breaker? My one seems to work too soon
@TheSnekkerShow

Yes. This video will explain why: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGXJXn1mobuiY6c There are some things you can do to reduce the load, like waxing the bed and using proper infeed/outfeed support.

My friend, I just realized what was my main problem. As this thickness planner isn’t sold in Brazil, The unit I have was bought in US, so the cord plug was a different than the awkward standard, So I was using an adaptor, This one was heating up and dissipating quite some Power there. I changed the plug and was like I added a turbo mode. But thanks a lot for your videos. I’m seriously considering removing the rotor and work with a dust extractor to release some juice. Cheers

I've been having nothing but problems with my new dewalt planer. The thing is litterally ratteling itself apart. I'm going to try putting a helical cutter head and see if that helps. Loud as hell too. the older dewalt seemed more powerful and quieter. Also the new dewalt seems to keep loosing it's traction on the stock even with light cuts. The outfeed is troublesome as well. Sometimes the outfeed roller catches the back end of the stock and sucks it up over the roller and gets jammed. Anybody else having these problems?

just put helical cutter in my 734 they take a lot more power and i would say that much quieter but cost loads of money

It shouldn't be rattling, but it is a noisy planer. You might want to call DeWalt's support line while it's still under warranty. If the rollers are losing traction, one of the first things to try is waxing the planer bed. As for the back end of the board getting stuck, I noticed this as well with 3/4" boards. Adding the extension tables or some outfeed support will fix that, and reduce snipe in the process. This video might help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZSyhn53rdeHr5I

Hey Ben, how do i message you ? (other than publicly here that is !) I've got some springs i wanted to send you to trial in the planer if your interested to test. I had them made recently to reduce the roller pressure to see how that affected snipe.... i specifically ordered extra sets of 50% and 75% pressure so i could send you some to try as well :)

I try to keep up with the public comments when time and quantity permit. Sometimes people email the channel name at Gmail, or send DMs on Instagram. As for physical mail, I haven't figured out yet how I'm going to handle sending and receiving, so I currently can't do either. I'll probably set up a PO box eventually. That's an interesting idea with the springs. You could probably use a dial indicator to measure the same boards in a before-and-after test.

If you are having to replace the breaker unless there is a problem with your motor you are taking too deep of cuts. 😩🛫

Mine wasn't giving me any trouble, I just replaced it for the video. I've heard other people talk about their planers tripping frequently though, which as you mentioned, is probably the gradual result of a lot of heavy planing wearing out the breaker.

@@TheSnekkerShow Gee I am sorry for the insult I threw at you😩 had we been told that others were having that issue I would not have made the comment that did. I guess some of this comes from the algorithm that YT has employed, content creators need to keep pumping out videos to stay afloat. So this leads to creative content. Thus a CB change! While the problem may not be the CB but the utilization of the equipment! My wife refers to this as OE operator error. 😁🛫
