asimplyfab.life/ How hard can it be? Armed with a repair manual and some basic skills, I tackle the master cylinder for our Land Rover 90. Maybe not the recommended way to do things, but fun nonetheless...

Cheers for that still as helpful and instructive since they day you did it all those years ago. Need to do my series 3 cylinder and all the vids out there tend to cover LHD so no issues getting the pedal box out. There’s me thinking I’d have to take the wing off, but what I really need is a magic spanner. Thanks again. Hope the old girl’s still going

Glad it helped - magic spanner is the way! Sadly the old girl had to go to a new home and we now have Dakota the 110 Good luck 👍😀

Excellent! Half the time one mostly needs the courage to commence because you know there will be hitches along the way... like the need to modify the spanner and so on. Great work.

Great vid, just facing this exact problem on my defender and your video has been really informative. Cheers.

As Mr Yeates below I am also about to undertake this ordeal. Thanks for the video it's been very helpful. A recommended list of profanities could have been included. Perhaps they are in another vid. Cheers.

Thanks for sharing this video. As I found out today, and is apparent when you watch this video, the only way to replace the master cylinder is to remove the break cylinden also. Apart from the 6 bolts in the same foodwell, only 2 breaklines need to be removed. Then it is a piece of cake, and no need for special tools.

starting the process of replacing mine today as well. Thanks for the video!

PS like your style about not bleeding the system onto the ground - amazing how cowboy some people are. Good on ya.

Excellent, well done. Now I always wondered why the whole pedal box had to be removed just to replace the clutch master cylinder. You proved it can be done without! Now here's a thought, that damned awkward bolt below the cylinder, could that nor be replaced with a welded stud...obviously that would have to be done when the box was out, but would make future repairs so much simpler.

Probably a very good idea! That was the 'pig'😊😅 to get back in! Along with the lower pedal adjustment nut (need seven fingers!)

Thanks very much. I'm just about to change mine. Started leaking after the addition of a heavy duty clutch.

Good luck - you need small fingers! ;-)

Like the comment about the blue box it came in - made me grin. Have had a few problems myself with them - how did it hold up? Still working 18 mo later?
@ASimplyFabLife8 жыл бұрын
+Nick S Somehow our 'blue-box' specials seem to hold up quite well. And if they DO quit then I can't really blame anyone but myself... So far no problems with it... How are your experiences?

Still informative in 2020. Any simple way to remove the master without removing the pedal ?

At 9:38, how did you say you got that bottom bolt on?
@ASimplyFabLife5 жыл бұрын
I got someone to help - from inside the vehicle putting a spanner with the nut on it through the access hole (which is two fingers wide) while trying to line up the bolt from topside. A real pig of a balancing act with much colourful language as it kept dropping off the spanner... Eventually we got there...

How long did it take you to complete this task?
@ASimplyFabLife3 жыл бұрын
I would say a couple of hours (if you have all tools and parts ready)

everything on defenders takes longer than on any other car pretty much. changing this part on a Patrol would take about 5 minutes
