Always use a jack stand in addition to the jack + wheel chucks
@jonwikan39863 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy, thanks for the video, very helpful for many, the other side is not so easy but if you jack the hub down out of the way it works but that heat sheild is tricky to get the threads started way back there.. * note that the 17mm Allen bolt is a stretch bolt and should only be used once. Always use the new one. They are designed to be torqued a specific torque(150 ish lbs depending on style. see specs) and then turned another say 1/2 turn(see manual). This stretches the bolt and prevents it from loosening, thats why you get the new bolt with the axle. Make sure to torque the inners as well. *also note I broke one of these cheap axles just yesterday and you lose all power to the wheels. Not pleasant on a busy street. OEM is much more expensive but a much safer choice no matter what the warranty is.

Good tutorial man ! A lot easier than the Accord I just did. Had to pop ball joint and knuckle just to get the shaft out.

After doing the job myself and stripping one of the triple square bolts and using a pair of vice grips to take it out rather than the ratchet i realized you really don’t need the triple square i don’t think. The bolts have lots for vice grips to grab.

Not all vw... Older models had a nut not the Allen bolt they had different flanges on the Cv also
@LookUpTheKalergiPlanWhitePeeps Жыл бұрын
I'm going to come steal your mud guards! lol. The axle nut is a one time use deal, it stretches. I did both front on my 2004 4 Motion 5 speed manual and have to replace the passenger side AGAIN because they sent me a damn defective axle UGH! lol. Also If I remember correctly, you need to tighten the axle nut to something ridiculous like 150 pound feet then turn it another half turn.

Don't forget the lock tite guys. My bolts backed out in -10 weather, just walked a mile home. 🤣 Getting ready to go to the junkyard tmw and get some of those bolts
@GCSEURO19822 жыл бұрын
I’ve had it happen before it sucks I know how you feel. I would just use some medium strength loctite tho for when you need to take those bolt out again.

@@GCSEURO1982 I had been hearing a noise for a while too, I couldn't figure out what it was. There is one bolt still in there from what I could see, it was dark and cold af 🥶. Im looking for my m10 triple square to hit the junkyard tmw and get those bolts.

@@GCSEURO1982 I thought I had tightened the hell outta them too. I did the cats and some mounts on my passat b5.5 4motion 2004 this summer , must have forgotten to really tighten the shit out of them
@GCSEURO19822 жыл бұрын
@@snoopy5736 I wish you the best of luck hopefully you get it fixed and don’t have to worry about it coming apart again. Loctite will definitely keep those bolts from ever coming out again

btw could u help me, on my passat, 2004 b5.5, the whole shaft just spins around, and the wheels doesent move, what u think the problem is?
@semii27446 ай бұрын
could it be the spleins in the wheel bases?
@GCSEURO19826 ай бұрын
I’m thinking it’s either the splines or there’s something broken inside the boot of the cv axle

I hear ya lol. Good vid. I'm going to attempt this job in a couple days. The 6 star bolts are making me nervous because I've heard they can be stripped really easy. Dont no if I should try hand tools to loosing them or an impact.
@GCSEURO19822 жыл бұрын
@@Ace-44 I’ve done it both ways and haven’t stripped one. as long as you take your time with those and make sure the tool is seated all the way in then you shouldn’t have any problems

When you installed the new 1 was your wheels straight or turned? And how did you put pressure on the new to maneuver it in place?
