cool video man. you have some great tips, but as a former mechanic who worked for Sears auto and did more struts shocks and tires, the best advice I can give is to be careful where you have the strut pointing when you have it under load. There were several times you had that thing pointed at your Johnson. Never point the strut at yourself or someone else. Always stay perpendicular to the strut, never put your fingers inside of the rungs, keep it flat and on top of the coil if the compressor lets loose (I've seen it happen and destroy a Snap-On Toolbox on the far side of the shop, also hit a center lift when the car was on it and watched it almost get knocked off) they can kill you point it like a gun in the direction you want it to go off and always treat is like it will let loose. Just some safety advice for the do it yourselfers

I hate dirty mechanic jobs, with you I really enjoy to see how clean and organize you do your work, maybe you are from army or something like it. I wonder why you did apply no torque at all. Anyway it's a very useful video, Thanks!!

Can you replace the snapped bolt with any kind of bold aslong as it is the same type of bolt? Or do you need that special one
@CraftyWorkshopBuilds
@CraftyWorkshopBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Nah, I would recommend that you get the specific pinch bolt.

Hey bro. Im about to take on the front suspension on my b7 cabrio. All control arms, tie-rods, shocks, strut mounts, springs, bump stops with all new hardware. Any tips? I know that by replacing everything i have more freedom in the sequence that i work but which bits would you remove first or is there a sequence you can recommend. Many thanks in advance and i love all your content. Especially the B7 stuff. 👊😎

Cool💪👍After this replacement, was it necessary to make a wheel alignment?

Aye bruhv I enjoyed the b5.5 alternator replacement video but I wanted to know when you put your control arms in on this one did you use a caliper to measure the distance between that and the top of the strut cuz I did mine and I didn't and I'm not sure if it made a big difference but it feels like I bottom out when Im doing 60+ hitting dips in the road 😁 In the end I guess I'll just get new coilovers all together lol
@CraftyWorkshopBuilds
@CraftyWorkshopBuilds 3 жыл бұрын
No need to measure control arms. I removed the upper control arms and they only install one way, without any adjustments. Did you replace the shocks or did you install coilovers?

You need to tight every rubber bushing in they ride hight level, otherwise it will destroy themselves in couple miles. Tighten up every bolt&nut just with hand,then put jack unter lower arm and put it up. Tight every bolts & nuts and that's it. It work better then officiall manual procedure, especially on lowered cars .

As you cut the head off the bolt you could have just tightened the nut and the bolt would have pulled out, simples

I tried that it didn't work. The bolt was seized.

Please do Not use Heat. It will destroy it and now has!

On my b5.5 the knuckle/ bearing carrier is steel, not alloy, so maybe heat wouldn't do much harm if the upper control arms are being replaced?
