Thanks--I was not able to get Dyson filters for my DC14; Dyson's site said they no longer have parts for or support it when I searched. I bought a couple of generic ones, but was only familiar with the top filter's location; this was very helpful in accessing the lower filter.

Thanks I was curious how to remove the bottom filter. And I didn't want to break it. I hate the new Dyson ball vacuums so I've been maintaining my old one and I did a thorough cleaning of it removing the cyclone unit completely disassembling it and putting it back together. It was a piece of cake and now the whole unit looks brand-new again. Anyway thanks again and you have lovely hands, And to you through a lot of parties?

The material in the new HEPA filter I purchased does not seem like the old one. It doesn't feel like the same material. Do you know what the dyson one is made out of, is it like a charcoal filter? I guess I should have probably purchased the Dyson one but mine actually does fit. What it's made out of or if it's actually even a HEPA filter so that has me concerned. I'll check where I purchase to see if there's any information.

I don’t trust ANY aftermarket HEPA filters. I fog tested my old filter and it was good and a fog tested a new filter and it leaked. If you are going to replace the HEPA filter, use only genuine dyson filters. If you can’t find any (which they are harder to find). Just don’t replace it. Clean off any larger debris. And just keep it in there

Why have a vacant compartment on the side when it looks like it's designed for a filter and nothing else?

Most likely to save money. The DC07 had it on the side. But with improvements, they moved the filter to the cyclone on the Dc14. They saved money by not changing the design.
