@@jimthecarguy agreed, I loved my CC until I realized what a headache the 2.0-turbo (TSI) really is. It’s a damn shame cuz the car has excellent steering/handling, easy-to-clean leather interior, a kickass sound system w/factory subwoofer, and it’s got balls! It’ll get up and go at almost any speed! So, too bad they are cheaply made

My 2013 CC had 10 mm Allen caliper frame bolts, not fancy 12 point bolts. Also, if you don't have the fancy ODBC control box, you can just remove the electric parking brake motor from the caliper and twist a flat blade screwdriver in the spline to retract it.

The socket is called a triple square socket. I would recommend buying the full set and try and get the one that goes from 1/4-1/2 ratchet sizes. They are ridiculously tight as noted in the video. I broke three 3/8s ratchets on a Q7. Now I have the bigger sockets in 1/2 so it is not a problem.

Hi Jim, just a comment/question. In the video, after retracting the piston electronically, then you push the piston mechanically . Someone who was with me at the workshop questioned that and said it should be rotated and not pushed. back I did push it as you did and it went relatively easy. I hope I have done it right. I would appreciate if you can comment on that. Thanks!
@jimthecarguy8 жыл бұрын
Ignacio Alvarez de Sotomayor Soria This one once you electronically retract the piston you can just push in the piston in without rotating.On the older mechanical ones you needed to rotate and push at the same time but not this one.

Is the VR6 4Motion Rear Caliper any differentIn the compression of the piston? I had tried changing the rear pads once before, and used an actual VAS-5054a head to extract the EPB. However, after extraction I could not compress the piston. I even tried a special tool that compresses and rotates the piston at the same time and could not get it to proceed back into the caliper. Eventually after giving up, I attempted to re-extract the EPB, and that caused the piston to pop out of the caliper and the caliper then needed to be replaced. Unfortunately since "most" folks have the 2.0 CC and not the VR6 4Motion (which for sure uses a different front caliper), I have been unable to confirm if the VR6 4Motiom rear caliper has a different procedure or not for the compression of the piston.

Hey Jim, great video! I'm in the process of ordering some Stage 4 EBC brake rotors and pads for my 2011 VW Tiguan (4 Motion). I was wondering if you could suggest a company to get that tool to access the ECU brake controller under the dash. I couldn't quite catch the name in the video. As well, should I go with the Red or Green pads? I do tow a trailer with a track bike and track gear, so maybe the Green? I don't really care about longevity out of my pads, I'll most likely change the set (rotors & pads) overtime, anyway. Lastly, I wanted to know why pretty much all VW's have those big aluminum rear-shields around the rotors. What's with those, and what is the benefit/disadvantage of removing them? Okay, that's it that's all. I would appreciate your feedback, Mr. Car Guy! :-)

that was great informative video, I had to take my VW cc 2009 to mechanic for a brake job, he order a new rotors, pads for the front and rear breaks, then he told me that the rear calipers for left & right are bad, and he needs a new sets of calipers, which is very expensive $535 for each side from the vw dealer and come in 3 days. That was a big upset, until I did research on line and saw your very good video, my questions is how he know the calipers is bad with out using computer device like the one u used to deactivate the EPB, is he right or wrong for his diagnosis. Thanks

If one uses a diagnostic tool it is very important to not just open the EPB using the tool but also to close them using the diagnostic tool as a 'Basic Settings Missing' error will occur if one does not close the EPB using the diagnostic tool. I only opened the EPB, changed the pads, then thought I would / could bring on the EPB by using the EPB button on the dashboard.... this did not work and brought up a flashing button. When I ran a diagnostic fault read I found the above error--- 'Basic Settings Missing in the EPB section. Only when I when back in and Closed the EPB using the tool did the fault clear. EPB means Electronic Parking Brake.

Silicone paste works great on the guide pins since it doesn't damage the rubber boot. Anti-seize works great for the pad-caliper contact points. I would also recommend using anti-seize on the rear hub to avoid the rotors rust-welding to the hub.

Jimthecarguy great job, first of i'm mechanically inclined so i understand you exactly,I will need to look for that EBS computer tool, maybe i can rent it, your use of it was much simpler than other video i've seen with laptops....one thing, i noticed you didn't sand when you took off the rotor, it didn't look that dirty, so wasn't sure if it's really mandatory(just a thought), also since you're a pro mechanic your rachet's seem to be longer than the regular consumer, i've got Stanley tools i hope it's not a problem, I'l just have to adjust. Thanks for your info, I will subscribe to your channel and let you know how my first brake job on my VWcc goes.
@jimthecarguy10 жыл бұрын
Hi Thank you for the positive feed back .I'm not sure if the large parts store rent that tool but it worth a phone call to see.The tool was expensive to buy I thing I paid around 3-4 hundred.Yes it is true that the hub were the rotor goes should be sanded but in this case there was no rust on them.The tools that I use is very long because when it is long it will give you more leverage to remove very tight or rusty bolts.The Stanley tools that you have will work but you will just need a little extra leverage to get the bolts out. Let me know how you do or if you need any other advice .Thanks Jim

What a joke you need a scan tool to retract pads it should be accessible via the car computer in the service mode . All these modern cars have on board computers . So why you have to plug in a scan tool is ridiculous but hey garages and dealerships are making a fortune from them. If the car pops a code that code is stored so why carnt it just tell you via the on board computer ..🤔🤔🤔🤔
