This video was a great help. Changed out both rear wheel bearing assemblies on my 2000 Sienna today. Went very smoothly. I’m grateful for the guidance.

Did this on a 2002 sienna last week. had to use a #8 bolt with washers and nuts to force both rear assemblies out of axle opening. Good video even though I already knew how to do this, wanted to see if there was any of my generation on here.

Great help. 2 things-My drums did not have the threaded hole to push them off, but got them no problem. My hubs just didn’t pop off as yours did. PB Blaster and a lot of pounding were required.

My Sienna 2002 bolt holes are too small for the recommended M8-1.25 bolt to remove the drum brake cover. I tried M7-1.00 but that one was too small. Any suggestions?

Charlie P The two I would use as a slide hammer that bolts to the Lugnuts studs and a few tabs it will pop off

It's not as easy as this hub replacement video went flawlessly. I have a nearly rust free 1998 Sienna. My passenger rear hub is worn enough, probably from hitting that pothole @60mph, to cause a slight vibration 40-50mph free wheeling. The bearing feels normally tight when I spin it by hand. But, I heard the ever slightest bearing noise. I checked my new hub assembly was the same tightness however spun silent. The hub bearing becomes slightly loose with the weight of the van pressing on it. Rapping the side of the wheel flange with a 2lb hammer loosened nothing! I shot the back side of the hub with some PB Blaster and let it sit 10min. From behind the hub, I used a brass drift punch to release the hub from its mount. The brake pad back plate remained fused to the old hub because of the littlest amount of rust. I had to disassemble the brakes in order to wedge them apart.

Nice video. Any idea on similar job on a Gen 3 (2011~2015) Sienna? I just can't figure out how to disconnect the Rear ABS (speed) sensor harness from the sensor/wheel bearing. Can open the outside white housing by prying open two small tabs on top & bottom of the housing. But after that, the housing is still connected with the wiring, and can't disconnect the inside harness/connector away from the sensor body (wheel bearing).

I just had a top rated local shop replace one rear hub assembly and supposedly shoes on both sides. $722. I do most of the minor work on my Sienna for years. Had tax return and no time this year. It looks like, I could have replaced that hub myself and adjust rear shoes in about $45 minutes. Did I get raked over coals?

What was the symptoms of this bad wheel bearing? I have the same set-up on my Corolla but not sure if its the front or rear bearings making noise. Just hope its the back because its easy to replace.
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Phil on this car the symptom was just noise. If you can jack the vehicle up at spin the wheels while listening for the noise and rocking back-and-forth to feel for play.

Hey can explain to me which part is the rear abs sensor? I want to take them apart and clean them for rust. I also want to check them for proper function since they are activating at 5 mph.
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Swag Boss The ABS sensor on the rear is built into the bearing itself and you cannot service it. As far as testing goes you would need a lab scope set up 1 volt scale how to positive lead to the signal wire in the negative lead to a chassis ground and spin the wheel and watch the screen for a waveform.

How to Automotive What about the front Abs sensors? Can I service them?
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Swag Boss if you follow the wire into the back of the spindle you should see a little screw holding it on and you can unbolt it and pull it out and if there's a lot of metal flakes or anything and you can clean it off and put it back in.

Those are a whole other monster. Not just a bolt off bolt on. You need a pneumatic press to replace them

Haha, look so easy he said. Got up car, check. Place jack stand for security, check. Remove Tire, check. If drum is stuck, just put a bolt in the little hole and press it in.... uhh, no,, break drum starting to crack in that area. 😮 ...so far, ~45 min, and I have the brake drum almost at the end of the bolts... But it sure is fighting. ... And yes, the brakes are off. 😢. ...haha, and now for removing the bearing itself... looks like a penetration lube, and lotsa pounding for me, like many others. 🤔
