Are lining up the starter clutch and the gear on top to the same dot critical? I’m not sure if it’s exactly lined up..

Wow! What a helpful video! I own a CRF450X as well and also have a problem, guys maybe you can give me an advice, I would really appreciate it. My starter makes only one turn or sometimes even half a turn, symptom is like a battery died, however it's fully charged. When I take starter off the bike and apply some voltage to it from the bike's battery - it runs well. What could possibly be the problem? When I use kickstart, engines goes with the first kick.

I'm assuming your battery voltage is around 12.8 volts with no load, right? Still a lead acid battery? Use some alligator clips on a digital multi-meter and check the battery voltage while hitting the button. If your voltage hits 8 or lower with the starter button pressed, then either recharge the battery then test again or replace the battery with a new one. Other than that you would have to check if one of those gears are binding up, but that is less likely to happen. -Charles

Which way should the starter spin when your looking at it from inside the case because mine is spinning counter clockwise which seems to just slip the starter clutch and not turn over the motor

So finally tore into mine today and get my starter clutch out and can’t turn it either way no matter how hard I try what would this do when trying to start as mine would get right to where it seemed like it was about to start and then just would stay there and not fully start

Yes the clutch basket has to come off during this process.

06 Honda Trx 450er is having the problem where the starter sounds like it’s slipping. Better have look at it. Replace the clutch bearing.

Does the TRX 450R 2006 have these starter clutches? I know of 1 450R with this same problem.

Hello! Thanks for making this very informative video. However I have a trx450er and the stater clutch assembly didn’t come out as a whole and the one way clutch hun is stuck on the splines. Any advice to removing it. I cannot seem to find a bearing puller small enough. Thanks!

I have a problem with both starters, when the electric kick starter fails, something inside also does not turn, after a few kicks it gets better and now it can start with both!??

When loosening the bolt on the clutch hub/basket, does anyone else always break the little splines on the clutch hub with the clutch hub holding tool? I've done this twice, once on a CRF250 and once on a CRF450....am I doing something wrong or is the clutch hub just that fragile?

Some of the Honda's that are newer than the bike we are working on in the video have a magnesium clutch hub. They are definitely more fragile. My one way clutch will not go back on the shaft nor will the other gear that goes on the shaft. I’m putting them on the right way
