Excellent video. The best DIY ive seen. I just used this tutorial to change my knock sensors (P0325 code) on my 2001 gs430. My advice to anyone who has a starter problem or knock sensor problem is to change all three item once you take off the manifold. I only changed both knock sensors and regret not doing the starter as it looked super old. Any of these could fail at anytime but to go back in there just to do one item is a lot of work. Also do not use a cheap no name brand for anything. Go with a reputable brand. I used NGK sensors. Its just too much work to put in an inferior component. There is an old saying: “A wise man cries once, a cheap man cries many times”.

Probably one of the best DYI videos I have seen so far! Thanks for taking the time to make this video and adding the crucial details. I need to change out one of the knock sensors and was worried it was too much work but you made it look easy so I will give it a try. I Currently have 472,000+ miles and just for fun want to make it to 500k before I send my 2001 LS430 to the grave. I bought it back in 2004 with 34K on it and so far only needed to change O2 sensors, alternator, and VT solenoids. Changed the timing belt a couple of times so far too. The engine has been very reliable.

Had to do the knock sensor on my '04 GS430 this evening and my god is this a challenge LOL! This intake has ssoooo much stuff in the way when it comes time to lift her up. Thankfully, you can just pop the top up a lot on the manifold once you get all the bolts and plugs out the way, then you can just prop it open with something so you can get the knock sensor out and the new one in. Took about 3 hours for me and my buddy to get everything all figure out on the removal side (we were taking our time too though.) I gotta get all the bolts back in and everything plugged back up but this was one HELL of a challenge actually. This is such a good video of what all is included in the intake removal. There's A LOT involved in this actually

Best video for replacing starter or knock sensors. This guy covers soup to nuts. Be prepared to strap a few broken connectors. Highly recommend two people for intake. Used old carburetor gasket. Fuel line connection was very difficult to disconnect. Do no attempt without flare nut wrenches. Went back on easy after a cleaning with B Blaster and tooth brush. Did not replace water hose or knock sensor harness. Thank You!!!

For removing the bolts you don’t need a special wrench you can remove the coolant port right atop the starter to get socket wrench in
@TheXL2013
@TheXL2013 2 жыл бұрын
But that'd mean draining the coolant. Otherwise you're gonna make a big mess if you go about it that way. A flex-head ratcheting wrench is definitely the way to go.

I came here in search of a possible answer to my problem. Seems to be that my starter may be my culprit to draining my battery. Possibly a hard short with the power wire from battery to starter. Have you seen this before? I havent dug into it yet But after much hours of diagnosing all rules out and the only thing left that i cant check is the hard starter cable wire. When i jump from another car it makes the cables soo hot i cant touch it. I would have to charge the battery and then start the car that way. Starter gives me the click click click all signs of a bad starter also. I live on 10 acres and have found forearm size rats sleeping in my engine bay. What im wondering is have you seen this and is there possibly a location where the power wire can touch ground and hot weld it self to ground? No blown fuses, no bad relays. Power wire to car draws 1.5 amps/ power wire to starter draws 1.5 amps.. connected they draw 3 amps.. which from my research is too much for these cars. Any in-site would be appreciated!

Hi, great vid and thanks for sharing! I've watched it plenty of times to build my courage so I can change the knock sensors. Is it absolutely necessary to use the line wrenches to disconnect the fuel line?
@juggis
@juggis 3 жыл бұрын
Use line wrenches so you don't twist or otherwise damage the fuel line or line connectors in any way. You do not want to create a fuel leak.

Great video. I don’t have this vehicle but was cool how you do the work along with explaining the tips and tricks. Do you think this was a good location for a starter? How much labor hours was this job? Heard good reviews about this car but the service would be a nightmare, isn’t it?

I have a 2002 LS 430 with 220k miles. The starter is probably the most difficult repair I’ve encountered. Almost everything else, brakes, serpentine belt, thermostat etc….. we’re some of the easiest repairs I’ve ever done on a vehicle in my life. I replaced all 4 pads and rotors in like 90 mins and it was sooooooo easy. The alternator is a piece of cake too. The car is so unbelievably reliable the repairs are few and far between anyways.

Wow, this is an awesome tutorial. From personal experience Lexus makes awesome vehicles. The LS430 is an incredible car, but why did Toyota put the starter in the worst possible location.....WHY????

They did that because it’s reliable, that starter can go 300k miles. Makes sense, it’s not exposed to the elements

I start my ls430 no less than 30 times a day, 7 days a week. Mine has 180000 plus miles Original starter. If I have to pay 1200$ for that job soon. It is worthwhile....Vs some nonsense repairs from other manufacturers not cheaper than that.
