In both versions of this video, there is no mention of a gasket or permatex. In this video, it looks like the removed thermostat has a liquid gasket. The other video looks to have a paper gasket. Neither video replaced it. Why?

Do you have to replace the housing??? I'm doing a water pump change and about to reinstall the housing onto the new water pump is there a reason why you change the housing??

There is no need to remove the fan shroud and belts. I did this repair yesterday on my 2004 Silverado 1500. Remove the air intake and drain the coolant as instructed above. After that a 3 inch extension on a 3/8 in ratchet with a 10mm socket is all you need. Why create all this additional work. Work smarter not harder.

They specify in the video that they did this for visibility and ease of access. The bolts holding the housing in the 2004 are easier to access, though I would still remove the intake, just because it's easy to remove and annoyingly in the way.

Can you remove the water pump the same way on this vehicle just by removing the fan shroud and fan

Starting in 2004 they eliminated the radiator drain plug. You need to remove the lower radiator hose to drain the radiator. Anyway you could add to this video or supplement to show this?

Strange I have a 2004 Silverado and mine had the drain plug. I wonder if that was a year GM was switching parts in the middle of production. I have seen it before.

It's just safer to remove the lower radiator hose regardless of the vehicle having a drain plug. If something goes wrong with the drain plug or it breaks it could mean having to replace the radiator with a new one.

I replace my thermostat on my 2003 suburban yesterday for a short time it warmed up like it was supposed to but today it's running cool it will not warm up.

What is normal operating temperature? I have a 2004 Tahoe and I changed my thermostat and now my temp only gets to 180°, Is this normal?

Matt 661 I think your temp should be 186 so probably close enough

Depends on the thermostat. A "race" thermostat will open between 180-195°, OEM is around 190-210°. Lower temps will net safer operation on hard use with hp mods, but the thermostat will go out faster. 5 years or sooner vs 10+. Or if you just got the wrong thermostat it could run lower and fail much, much sooner. Make sure you have the right part.

No video is even needed. Just drain the coolant, disconnect and replace the bad t-stat, make sure the hoses are connected properly again, and then fill it back up with coolant again... Fairly simple for Professional KZbin mechanics like me... lol
