Thank You! Do you also have to replace it based on time criteria? For example if I have only 20k driven, but the car is only 6 yo. Is there a way to evaluate the wear without doing that much dissasembly?
@Chris_CDB8 сағат бұрын
@@AlojzyZyrokompas to be honest if it’s around 6 years old then it wouldn’t hurt to do it to be honest. Few hundred now is better than a new engine later!

Hi mate thank you for a great video , I have just bought one today with a broken timing belt fiat engine same as yours and was told its a safe engine won't have damaged anything is this correct?
@Chris_CDB10 ай бұрын
I’m pretty sure some of the engines were non interference engines depending on the Bhp of the engine itself. Worst case time it up, sling a belt on it and see if you can get compression readings on cranking.

@@Chris_CDB Thank you for your reply mate I think that’s what I will do yes this is a 68bhp engine .

Thank you so much for this video, really gave me the heads up for mine. First time I have ever done a cam belt! Only 32k on the clock but shes 10 years old now. The aux belt was pretty bad (one of the ribs had disintegrated) and the cam belt was showing cracks like yours when bent. I found the hardest job was removing that bloody ecu tray! Fiddly or what!? I can see why some dont bother locking the cam as getting the rocker cover off adds a fair bit of time and faff but I didnt want to risk not doing it properly. I did the cam belt, aux belt, cam belt tensioner, thermostat and coolant swop so you saved me a packet on labour and shes running great. You're a star!

Probably around 3/4 hours to do it properly

do you really need that sealed kit .if the break is on and it's left in gear will everything stay put and is it a special tool for the tensioner?
@Chris_CDB2 жыл бұрын
It won’t make any difference to the head position if the car is in gear or not, the second you remove the belt the camshaft is free to turn where it wants. You will need to make sure it’s all locked up with the tools. The tool for for the tensioner is in the kit. You will need to use that or a pair of cir-clip pliers also works.

what brand instant gasket did you use? not sure what one to order for the job when it comes in
@Chris_CDB2 жыл бұрын
I use Dirko SH-T gasket sealer, however any brand will do

Do you replace the cam cover gasket
@Chris_CDB2 жыл бұрын
Usually if I have the cam/rocker cover off It’s good practice to change the gasket as it goes hard and leaks once it’s been disturbed!

Hi, does it need every time when changing timing belt to change tensioner too ? Even if it is tight ? About water pump, the old one was leaking and so you fitted a new one ? Thanks in advance for your answer!
@Chris_CDB2 жыл бұрын
I would ALWAYS change the hardware with the belt kit, and the waterpump aswell, at the end of the day it is complete false economy for a garage to change the belt and not do the pump and the rest of the kit at the same time. Waterpump was not leaking, just good practice.
@Chris_Ks052 жыл бұрын
@@Chris_CDB Yes that’s the correct way you do. I am asking because Before i buy the car, they had changed timing belt but on the service book they wrote only belt changed and just checked about “tight fitment” on the rest.. So probably now I have to wait until next change and hope especially tensioner do the job until then.. 🤷🏻♂️
