How To Replace Toyota FJ Cruiser Headlight Bulbs!!!

Hey guys!! Short and sweet video today of the FJ getting her bulbs replaced!! I love working on my girl so much, and I'm expecting more parts for her soon.

Great video - easy, five minute job. If you wear gloves (Good idea - as in video, to keep bulb clean), be aware that when you remove the old bulb, you may get grease on your gloves....don't let THAT grease get on your new bulb. You almost need two sets of gloves (to keep you hands clean and then the bulb clean - or just really good soap for your hands!) You'll notice R&D takes her gloves off on the installation.) Thanks.

Thank you! It'd been so long since the last time I did this I couldn't remember all the steps on my 2007. Two, minor, challenges: 1st, it's easy to engage only one side of the spring clamp, which leaves the bulb able to move - make sure both halves of the spring clamp are fully engaged. 2nd, the dust boot can be a bit of a PIA to slip over the base of the bulb. A quick wipe with a silicone-based lube makes reinstallation of the boot 10X easier!

Just performed this bulb replacement on my FJ. The little spring arms that hold the bulb in place need to be centered to seat correctly...its easy for them to slide sideways at their hinge point. All in all not a very difficult project.

Haha thank you!! Happy to help!! I think unfortunately I’ve just chalked the fj up to be basically a flying brick so there’s not much to be done about wind noise.

2011 FJ Cruiser - I purchased H4 LED Forenner LED bulbs Fahner. Unplug the wired plug from the back of the old bulb in car. Pull off the rubber housing, Unclip the wire spring within the housing by pressing its tab around old bulb and move it back and down. Remove old bulb.Unscrew the keyed plate over the fan housing at the base of the new bulb. Place this keyed plate in the housing on the car that holds the bulb. Insert the LED bulb and twist to match the bulb to the keyed plate. Replace the wire spring within the housing that holds the bulb. Plug the new bulb into the socket that you first removed from the existing assembly. Check your headlights to see that they are working after installing both sides.

Great video. One thing I always like to do is to test and confirm after the work is complete. Fire the FJ up, turn on your headlights and make sure you got low beams and hi beams. It is rare but I have seen bad bulbs from the factory. Also, while you have the FJ fired up check the running lights, break lights and turn signals. Only takes a few seconds. Thank you......

Thank you so much for watching and the comment! We generally use 9003 Sylvania Silverstar Ultra headlight bulbs in the FJ. Significantly better light output at the cost of shorter bulb life. I hope that helps!!
