Did the job this weekend on my 04 with 145,500 miles, and this video was invaluable. It is very well laid out, easy to follow with good narration and camera work. Kudos to you! I actually broke the job down into two separate ones, one for the front/left rocker cover and one for the back/ right cover. Front was really easy. Back was more difficult and time consuming because of the intake plenum, but was still not that bad. The one thing I found was that there was also a 12mm bolt, threaded into the back of the intake plenum, attached to a bracket coming up from the block that wasn't mentioned in the video. Took awhile to figure out why it wasn't coming loose from the engine until I found that. Once it was out it was a breeze. I attempted this because I had an oil leak at the plug seals. As it turned out the back/right cover wasn't leaking but after finally getting that plenum off, there was NO WAY I wasn't going to change it. Also replaced the spark plugs and coil packs for good measure. I ordered the valve covers, coils, plugs, vent line, intake and throttle body gaskets at a combination of Rock Auto, Amazon and e-bay,and had $198in parts when it was all over. I also removed the throttle body and cleaned it with CRC spray cleaner while I had everything apart. It had a good buildup crap in the inside walls and butterfly valve. Thanks again for this video. It was a lifesaver!

Can you give me a idea of where this 12mm bolt is. I am actually doing my 06 murano and I think I am running into the same issue. All hoses and electrical clips are out from the back but i can not left the intake out. It feel like something is still connected. Should a feel like a metal plate where the 12mm bolt is? Also the hose attached looks like it has some silver covering on it. Am I in the right ballpark I've been working on this job for 3 days and quite frankly I'm getting super frustrated. I have a 2004 Nissan Altima and it is exactly the same. I reviewed a couple other videos and yours was the best. The front was not as involved as the rear but the rear was not difficult. No special tools were required as I saw in other videos. Don't know why the customer did not go for the entire valve cover with the new spark plug seals. I have had several Nissans and the spark plug seals leaking was a common maintenance item. Although the Altima did not have any leaky seals like the Murano you worked on. Like your top poster, I will replace everything I can while it is apart, plugs, coils, vent line, etc. You can change the title to include the 3.5 Altima. Thank you for the great assist!

The Murano you worked on is missing the bracket holding the power steering hose up. That is a 12mm bolt and is a total bitch to remove and it also keeps you from pulling the manifold forward enough to undo the clip holding the bottom portion of that plug in place thus forcing you to remove the 10mm bolt holding THAT bracket on. BTW, I didn't have to pinch off the water hoses, and yes, the system was full. Note to anyone attempting to do this at home, BUY THE VALVE COVER SET!!! I was hoping I wouldn't need them and ended up wasting 31 bucks on gaskets as the rear cover was bad. Since you are in there...might as well change the plugs (mine were burned open to 58 thousandths) and the coil packs so you won't have to pull that damn intake off AGAIN.

And all of a sudden when I was on the highway the engine began to bog down and was having a hard time accelerating. I pulled over and the engine was smoking because oil shot out from some where. It looks like it was in the front because the oil shot all over my fan in the front? Could this be because the valve cover gasket needs to be replaced in the front?? Idk where this oil came from.

You added a dime-sized glob of silicone sealant in the corner of where ends of the valve cover where the cover curves up. Is that all you need? In the owners manual it shows a line of silicone that starts at the first bolt-hole and extends to the top of the curved portion on of the valve cover. Should I follow the service manual or what you did? Thanks.

Doug Burckhardt all you need is a small amount. I have seen if you use to much silicone you can create uneven surfaces and create leaks.

Thank you for the video! I may have a oil leak in my '05 Murano with over 161K miles on it. In late winter, I started getting heavy white exhast smoke when I started up my car. It goes away after a few minutes. About 2 months ago, I had a low oil pressure light on. I regularly had my oil changed, the last time being in January with additional repairs afterwards (new starter, 1 engine coil, camshaft and crankshaft sensors replaced). It didn't make sense that my oil pressure light should be on after spending thousands of dollars on repairs. The car started making churning sounds on acceleration. I learned how to change my own oil and oil filter. The old oil was thick, but smooth (no grit). Once I changed the oil and filter the light went off, the churning sound went away, but I still have that white smoke coming from my car exhaust just after it is turned on. I predominantly took it to the Nissan dealership, but now I am going to fix my car myself. What else should I be look at for the oil leaks?
@NFLYoungBoy2235 жыл бұрын
Antoinette I love my 2007 Nissan Murano with 193,000 miles but mine does leak oil to I had to change the spark plugs at 173,000 miles and did notice 1 spark plug covers in oil and figured that was a valve cover gasket.
@rasserrati54662 жыл бұрын
im sure you found a fix and or no longer drive the murano but my fix for the white smoke on start was the pcv on the rear valve cover was clogged with oil which made any excess gas and pressure release through my exhaust opposed to the pcv. Also changed spark plugs while i did this so it mightve helped that too

@HowtoAutomotive6 жыл бұрын
mckoy lach On some of the earlier models it was oxygen sensors front and rear and the newer ones air fuel ratio is in the front. Air fuel ratio’s sensors always go before the cat and oxygen sensors. The way to tell if you have an air fuel ratio sensor is to look at the under hood label. There’s a section where all the emissions devices are labeled. May see something that looks like this A/F or O2

Abel Figueroa it's possible to use the throttlebody gasket and in a pinch I have reuse the intake gasket. But you leave yourself open for a future problem. As far as the tube seals on the valve covers it's a lot of work so I would change them out. The covers are that expensive.

My murano has 107,000 miles and I just had my spark plugs, intake manifold gasket and valve cover gasket replaced. I originally planned to only get my spark plugs and intake gasket serviced, but my mechanic noticed some oil leaking around the valve cover, but he said I only needed the gasket. And now I'm worried that I should of replaced the entire valve cover instead of just the gasket. So now my question for you is, will I be expecting any trouble with any type of leak after I just replaced all but the valve cover since I didn't know the seals weren't serviceable?
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Chris Keath this is one of those situations where you could be good for a long time or the seals could start leaking into the spark plugs and you have to do the entire job all over. From my experience service writers are afraid to call customers back and try to up sale so they let things like this slide. But in the end they end up costing you more money

Juan Carlos Olea the code means that the idle is to high. So look for vacuum leaks. Gasket came off or hose unplugged. Also something maybe pinched under the intake.

First I would like to say thank you for this video! I’m working on a 2005 Murano and this was extremely helpful. While replacing my sparc plugs, I noticed one of the rear sparc plugs had oil so I also replaced the rear valve cover with a brand new one which also included a new pcv valve. I also replaced the hose that connects from the front to rear valves. When I first started the car, there was a lot of white smoke coming from the exhaust. I saw another person commented with the same issue which turned out to be the pcv valve. My pcv is brand new though. Any other thoughts? Thanks again
@HowtoAutomotive6 жыл бұрын
Matt Wall If you only got the smoke the one time after the repair then I would suspect that some of the oil that leaked in the spark plug tube drain into the combustion when doing the repairs. If it’s just a little oil it’ll burn off pretty quickly and you’ll never see it again unless you have an internal engine problem.
@mattwall1136 жыл бұрын
You were correct. It only occurred after the very first start right after the work was completed. Never happened again.

@Youraverage_savage you probably have fixed it already but in that case you need to do an idle relearn process

I love my 2007 Nissan Murano with 193,000 miles but mine does leak oil to I had to change the spark plugs at 173,000 miles and did notice 1 spark plug covers in oil and figured that was a valve cover gask
@HowtoAutomotive5 жыл бұрын
NFL YoungBoy Yeah that’s gonna be a valve cover leak. Unfortunately the seals are replaceable the whole cover has to be changed. Kind of a dumb design.

I have a 2004 Nissan murrano when I press the gass and start driving and stars hesitating to go . I have no check engen lights on
@HowtoAutomotive5 жыл бұрын
Johnny Placido I would still try pulling the code even though the light is not on. Most likely a misfire. If you check mode nine in generic it may tell you which cylinder is misfiring. Also injector failure is comment on that vehicle. Another thing because it is low engine oil timing is controlled by oil pressure.

just did this job and know i have misfire in all cylinders (did a sparkplug change regular ngk sparkplugs not OE and i gapped at .044) Help please i took this apart 5 times already to see what is wrong cant find nothing 😫

I think this is the problem that i have with my 2007 murano I see oil leaking from the middle/front of the engine, behind the a shield. White smoke creates as the liquid burns in the catalytic converter

U keep.cslling your Milwaukee power wrench a Makita bud!! Great video on the repair, just replaced both my valve covers due to a massive oil leak and also had to replace my power steering fluid lines due to another bad leak. Great timing to do at same time, along with full tune-up and now vehicle runs way better with no oil/fluid leaks anymore! Thanks chief!

Really good video! Just did this on my customers car. They actually sold me the tube seals at the Auto Zone. But i could not get them out. Ive heard of some people using a hole saw to get them out but i did not want to go that route . So unfortunately i had to replace the front cover. My customer did not like the fact she had to buy that pricey part but there was no way around that.

What is the purpose of the vent hose?
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Manuel Salgado inside the engine is moving air an it vents it from the left side to the right side of the engine.

How to Automotive I have a 2005 quest and at the top left of the valve cover there is a hose I broke when replacing the valve cover. Is that the same vent hose? Thanks for replying
@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Manuel Salgado sorry to hear you broke that hose. Yes it's the vent hose.

Hey anybody I have a 2007 Nissan Murano with 193,000 miles and I was just doing preventive maintenance by changing the valve covers because when I changed the spark plugs at 170,000 miles one spark plug was covered in oil the ceramic and where it sparks at and changed the 3 rear ignition coils but anyways this week I replaced the valve covers front and rear and that took me 4 days since it’s very cold in Chicago and it was snowing and so when I was working on the front one I had the front ignition coils in a drawer and they were kind of getting snowed on so I just wiped them off and closed the dresser to dry them and install them tomorrow so when I put the car back together I had a code that read P0081 then I looked around the engine and I just reconnected a harness and I reset the code then it was running fine for 30 seconds then it got to running rough again and got a code P0300 and wonder if it’s the front ignition coils but I replaced all the spark plugs at 170,000 miles and only the rear 3 ignition coils

@HowtoAutomotive7 жыл бұрын
Valencia Cook I'm not sure what you mean by IMRC?
@valenciacook12717 жыл бұрын
IMRC intake manifold..
@picklerix61626 жыл бұрын
intake manifold runner control
@HC-ov2hh4 жыл бұрын
Now why do you have to remove the intake just to replace the valve cover gasket?????? I do not understand
@HowtoAutomotive4 жыл бұрын
H C On the six cylinder there’s two valve covers and the intake completely covers up the back one.
