This video shows you how to install a variable valve timing (VVT) solenoid on your 2003-2011 Honda Element. If the variable valve timing solenoid in your vehicle is stuck or clogged, causing your engine to not run properly, you may notice reduced fuel efficiency, sputtering, rough running or stalling in your engine. Solenoids usually need to be replaced once they begin to fail.

My son's car had the p2646 code a couple weeks ago. I changed the solenoid assembly on the back of the motor which had just started to leak and it worked for a week while he was home. Then on his way back to school it happened again 2 hrs away and the car wouldn't run over 3000rpm. He limped it home on back roads yesterday and I guess I'll change this solenoid out today and see if that fixes it. Thanks for the video. Lest hope it's as easy as you made it look.

That early style solenoid valve with the black rubber seal running between the lands allows hydraulic cross flow between the lands which causes the intake cam to stay advanced at low engine speed which is the cause for P1009 and very rough running. New style solenoid without the seal between valve lands solves that problem.

Replacing this valve requires an oil change at the time of replacement. Not changing the oil can cause the new valve to not operate properly. This is according to the OEM tag that comes with the new valve.
