Excellent video man! This was the only one I could find that addressed circumnavigating that pesky ABS sensor on the rear wheels (my 04 Forester is identical). My "sandwich" for seating the stud was: large washer, then large nut (don't remember the exact size but anything a bit bigger in diameter than the stud will work), and finally a M12x1.25 nut. This drew the stud in perfectly. I was worried about overtightening the stud but it was very obvious when to stop tightening. I also used a long metal bar wedged in between the other studs and the ground to prevent the wheel from spinning while tightening. If you do this, you should protect the threads of the other studs from damage. I simply threaded my other 4 lug nuts onto the studs and this worked perfectly. Finally, once the stud was seated, I reassembled and then finished it off with the correct M12x1.25 lug nut. In hindsight, I probably could have used the lug nut to seat the stud but it was cheap enough to just use a separate nut and spare my lug nut the stress. O'Reilly wanted $42 for that "specialized" tool for seating the stud. No way Jose! Cheers!

This helped with my 03 Forester. Got my fenders rolled and was upset about studs being jackked in the rear. Wasn't looking forward to replacing rear studs, and this made it so much easier

Thanks so much for this video man! I have one stud on the rear of my 07 that got all mangled and stripped by the previous owner, and I was worried about taking that abs sensor out and ruining it like you said lol. I live in PA so I'm certain it's rusted in place, and my abs light isn't on and I'd like to keep it that way lol

Going to be cutting my studs to run a spacer as well ... figured I would see how the eventual replacement would go. Thanks for the video dude

@@wesmartin8314 How did you cut the studs while keeping the thread?
@wesmartin8314
@wesmartin8314 2 жыл бұрын
@@lukegodden1529 I just used an angle grinder to cut them. After cutting them I just used a file and flat head screwdriver to take any sharp metal away. I used an old lug nut to insure the threads were clean before putting my aftermarket lug nuts on!

@@wesmartin8314 Appreciate it man, currently trying to put some spacers on my 04 WR1 STI but like yours the wheels only just come into contact with the bolts. Might actually just hack some chunks out of the wheels
@wesmartin8314
@wesmartin8314 2 жыл бұрын
@@lukegodden1529 I have done exactly what you are talking about. I would highly recommend just cutting studs. You are going to spend WAY more time and effort hacking wheels. You also can't fix the wheels down the road, you can always replace wheel studs. It kills the value of the wheels if you ever wanted to sell them too

Yesterday (12/26/2021) I've lost my 2 rear studs when driving. My Subaru Outback 2002 suddenly wobbled, I stopped immediately and saw 3 rear wheel nuts missing. Two studs were cut off and the nut between them was out. I took one nut from another wheel, screwed the wheel on 3 nuts and came home at 50 mph by 150 miles. I'll try to follow the video to change the studs. By the way, on USSR car ZAZ-968M "Zaporojets" (Запорожец) the studs were welded with the hub 🤨

I am glad it was helpful, the front took only like 20 min per side. The rears would of taken a similar amount of time if I knew they could go through the bottom. I guess you live and learn haha. I would guess the whole job shouldn't take you more than 2 hours!

The rear replacement looked very tight. Do you think it would've worked with extended wheel studs?
@wesmartin8314
@wesmartin8314 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry i never saw this comment. I honestly don't think you would be able to fit extended studs. The normal length ones were very tight

Does it seem there is enough room to pull an extended stud through? 5mm longer?
