How do you test the fuse to know if it even needs to be replaced?

Do a continuity test on the fuse or jumper it out and see if yours starts. If it starts the fuse was bad.

ya, a blown fuse ~has a broken wire inside it, it will have a high ohm reading = resistance.

Why do you use the new wiring could you not just unclip it from the fuse and put the new fuse in?

why do all that? even the factory brass clips come out if that, you just unsnap the wire holder, pull the old fuse out, put the new one on it. done

RockAnAhardSpot The manufacturer designed the replacement part with a new wiring harness. It is always best to install the complete kit, according to the manufacturers instructions provided with the part.

I did that. It worked for a week and then went out again. Checked the fuse at it was ok so I'm going replace the entire thermal fuse, wires, etc. and see if that fixes it.

I did not replace the wires and my thermal fuse burned... moral of the story , replace your wires too, thats why its in the kit.

I made this comment 7 years ago, we do dishes every single day with the exception of a camping and fishing trip days which are Not as often as I woudl like .. LOL. still working. It;s been working so long I am going to have t get a new machine just because the wife says she wants a New machine. I can't figure it out, I read installing the entire kit (5" wire leads) is somehow going to keep my thermal fuse from blowing. What is it about the wires that is making this supposedly work? Logic tells me it's extra work and it's doing nothing but lengthening the wire to the actual fuse. I've seen so many others on YT, just remove the old fuse, pop in the new one, and it works.Disclaimer: I'm on my 2nd blown thermal fuse, original one blew. I did the tapping the fuse technique on the new one and it reset it. So I popped it back in and hit the Cancel/drain button, it drained. Now, before I move forward, I checked a lot of parts for continuity, even the heating element, all seems to be fine. I'm very tempted to cut the wire, install the kit as suggested, reset it using the keyboard and see how it performs a full wash cycle.

as a past electrician, the simple answer is, larger wires = less heat and stress on an undersized fuse. small wires = pop, go boom.

What do I do when I open up the same section that you just did and nothing looks the same a lot of the housing is under a metal frame that you cannot remove could it be that the the fuse could be underneath a 14 year old whirlpool dishwasher

HEMP IS NOT POT, I cannot reply to you as you have that feature turned off. The manufacturer made this kit as an upgrade, they do this occasionally. It is always best to replace the entire kit as suggested.

On my Maytag dishwasher, I replaced the Thermal Fuse and it blew again after about a month. I took a closer look at the Controller Board, and where the power connector plugs into the board, the pins were discolored, which indicated the board was shorting-out at that connection. I replaced the Controller Board and the Thermal Fuse and I have not had any issues in over a year.

My thermal fuse actually kept blowing even after I fixed the door switch. So I finally just took it out of the loop. Problem fixed! I don't recommend anyone else to do that because it's not safe, but it worked great for four more years until the dishwasher started leaking and I replaced it.

protects your hands. There are lots of sharp edges as most of these internal parts are unfinished.

@@RobotMoker I'm an 18-year appliance tech. I wear gloves maybe 5% of the time. My hands don't cut too easily. When a customer helps me they almost always cut themselves. I think he does it for the novice and to avert a potential lawsuit. Personally, wearing gloves would slow me down as I would be dropping screws and other small parts constantly and I charge for the time it takes me to complete the job. I bet when our friend Matt here works off camera he says "EFF THESE GLOVES!"
