Hey. My 03 S430 has the gas smell in the cabin. I will order the filter but how do I know I don’t need to replace the pump?

Hello XEL ENT, usually when a fuel pump is going on it will make noises and you'll feel a change in how the engine behaves. You might also get a check engine light. If you smell fuel in the cabin you might have a fuel leak? I would check the car for fuel leaks or engine oil leaks. Sometimes oil from a leaking valve cover gasket can burn onto the exhaust manifold and create a bad smell in the cabin. Either way, I would still get it checked out by a certified Mercedes mechanic as soon as possible. I hope this helps. Cheers!

I've been having a rough idle at times. I will replace the filter this coming weekend and hopefully that will fix it. I had used some gas dryer to help get rid of moisture build up in my fuel tank. But it will also cause the sediment to go out with the moisture. I changed my filter. The filter has "tank" and "pump" stamp onto the filter on one side. It's makes it almost fool proof to get the correct hose on the right filter connection. The hose that keeps on leaking is the hose from the fuel tank.

I installed the serpentine belt wrong (went over an idler pulley instead of under) and cut through a coolant hose between the water pump and the thermostat. Decided to get to the hose via the thermostat because to remove the water pump I would have had to remove the balancer thingy that goes on the crankshaft. So, to remove the thermostat I had to remove the intake manifold. Anyway, after lots of tears I just have it back together. It starts. No check engine light.

Makes me wonder why they charge so much. Filter will be more expensive since the dealer is charging full retail price. I wonder how much time are they charging for a fuel filter replacement. There's time to check other things out and remove and replace the fuel filter within one hour.

I done full filters swapped today. Oil filter was like someone squeeze him to the limit : ( petrol filter not that bad but I could see that when I replaced fuel filter the petrol color was so dark colour is that mean oil going to petrol from injector's??? ,4.3 V8

I’m sorry for your loss. Thank you for the video. Don’t you take the fuel pump fuse out and run the engine until it stops to remove pressure from the fuel system? I remember someone recommended I did that on my VW Polo but perhaps there’s a reason not to do that on one of these vehicles.
