Always blows my mind that someone would make a KZbin video and not say a word. On the plus side, you did a good job of capturing wind noise. BTW, I was told to ALWAYS use DOT5 brake fluid for motorcycles.

How do you compress the piston? Do I have to take the caliper off? First time doing breaks.
@SingleMaltMotors
@SingleMaltMotors 3 жыл бұрын
If you take the caliper off the bike, there are cheap tools (like $7) to compress the piston. You can also “fake” with a good vice. If you leave the caliper on the bike, get a wide flat head screwdriver or similar tool and push the brake pad back into the piston carefully by leveraging against the rotor.

Do I return the removed brake fluid to the master cylinder? Or just top it off with new fluid ? Getting ready to do this for the first time
@SingleMaltMotors
@SingleMaltMotors 3 жыл бұрын
Always discard old brake fluid. Brake fluid is hydroscopic, i.e., it absorbs water, so throw out the old stuff and any unused part of the new fluid. You can buy the smallest size you will need since you can't save it once the bottle is opened. Also take care not to spill any on your paint is it could damage it. Hope that helps ya.

If I remember the guide pin will that loosen the other screws holding the calliper? Or do I have to loosen those as well?

@@SingleMaltMotorsIs it normal for the caliper to have a little bit of play once everything is finished? Of course when I press the break it doesn't have any play, only once I let go of the break. It's very very little. Thanks

@@dirkdiggler2430 no, that’s not normal. Should have no play when fastened to the bike.

@@SingleMaltMotors1:37 on your video when you pull the little black cap I see the caliper move up as you pull and when you push the bleeder hose in. That's the movement I'm asking about. Sorry I'm asking too many questions and thank you for responding back. This is the best video I found on how to do my breaks.

What size and kind of wrench did you use on that guide pin ? . I thought it was an external torx so I bought and entire set of sockets and none will fit

Is a caliper cleaning needed when changing the pads?
@SingleMaltMotors
@SingleMaltMotors 2 жыл бұрын
Just spot cleaning, if needed. No need for full caliper rebuild unless it's needed, e.g., stuck piston, torn boot, etc.

Oh riding safe. My left leg is prosthetic. Victim of a little old lady who ran a red light in front of my panhead chop. Leg gone from just below the knee. My solution has been to fab up or adopt heel toe shifters. I also did a jockey shift with the clutch lever attached to it. The coolest thing on my dyna is repurposed heel toe shift from a shovelhead!
