Hi Great video...I am a beginning, live also in South Florida and not much of a green thumb. LOL but I have a few questions? 1.Once I but them on the basket do you hang them on the fence or on porch at the beginning? 2.Also do you fertilize them and if so which fertilizer and how often? 3. How often do you water them especially we live in South Florida and you see how hot it is? 4.. Some video advise to spray the roots with peroxide so no bugs get in due to the cutting of the roots, do you advise that? Thank you

Good simple video. What do you do with the leftover wet moss? Also, can line the vanda basket with coconut husk first before using the sphagnum moss?

I just became new to the orchid world, I have several phalaenopsis and a few vandas. The vandals are doing great The phalaenopsis are not doing so great I have them in the basket but I have not used sphagnum moss I also live in Florida and I'm having the leaves that are starting to wrinkle. How do I keep them from dying they were doing well??

diegocast 97 ive never used leca. Never tried it. Nurseries here are big on bark chips and spagnum moss so that’s what I use.

Okay, what did you do to that little table? Were you table dancing and broke out one tile? 😜😘 With the compressed pack of sphag, always open the whole package and wet the whole thing to expand it so the strands aren't broken. I just squeeze out most of the water and stuff it in gallon ziploc bags to store it.

Michael McCarthy 😂 oh my lol I would of broken the entire table. I was doing the happy dance because it’s cold again💃 I never thought of wetting the entire package if I’m not using it. Can it stay inside that zip lock for months and still be fresh?? I would think that’s why they send it like that so you can use what you need and save the rest for later 😊🌸 Enjoy this weather and thanks for the advice.

@@blancasorchidgarden Eek! Cold is bad. I had to turn on the heat _again!_ . Yes, it stays fresh, so long as it isn't sopping wet but you can always just leave the bag open to let it dry if you won't use it for a while. I tend to go through it so fast after I open it, I don't worry too much, but I've got some right now that has been bagged for 3 months or so. It is packed in the brick form to make it more cost effective, easier and cheaper to ship it in the smaller package.

The pots those orchids came in should have been changed out as soon as you got them. The roots on those phals are root rotted because of the pots growers move them in for sale. I was raised with the worlds largest orchid provider and those plastic things are just a cheap way for them to send them out but it suffocates the plant, it’s not meant to be kept in. I know you thought those roots looked healthy but they really weren’t. A phal should have a ton more green roots than that. On those big phals you had barely any healthy roots so just a tip for when you get them in the future. If you are gentle when you buy them you will save the roots and not or minimally affect the flowers bloom length.

How far I know Cutting the root of orchid not scientifically correct. It needs another treatment. Though u cut dead & infected root but It extremely cross the limit. Now make sure is this Philonopsis alive after reporting.
