I'm a wildlife rehabber. I have excellent luck with squirrels and possums. Rabbits are heart breakers. I think it's something like only 40% make it. This spring, I took in 6. I was able to raise and release 2. That's all that made it. I'm watching this to see if I can earn anything. They're so precious, I can't stand to turn one away. I sure hope you had luck with your little one.

Thank you for this video. Most other sites simply tell you to take them to a wildlife rehab place. The obvious problem is that not everybody is in driving distance of a wildlife rehab facility. This is very helpful.

@@kristaloechnerbvvv They can become so stressed with being in captivity that they produce stress hormones that can eventually kill them. Apparently it’s bet to let them lap up milk as soon as they can and do a completely hands off approach, plus give them an area they can be free to roam/self determine movements to reduce stress. (This comes from rearing orphaned Leveret studies.)

Just want to say: it may look like the baby bunnies have been abandoned, but most of the time they’re not, the mother only comes to feed her babies once a day, and the feeding time is very short.

what if my dog killed one of the siblings? Do u think the mom will still come back
@artificialvibrance
@artificialvibrance 4 жыл бұрын
Aimee Peltz I think she will. Originally there were 8 bunnies that were born at my house and at one point when I counted them I only counted 7, so I assumed something bad must have happened to one of them because the 8th one never came back, but the mom still came back and fed her babies anyway, probably knowing that there was one missing.
@artificialvibrance
@artificialvibrance 4 жыл бұрын
Aimee Peltz forgot your mention- one time I saw my cat with one of the bunnies in her mouth and i flipped out and yelled at her, and she dropped the bunny, and I was looking at her bunny scared it was going to die. I got my dad to bring the bunny back to our front yard and the bunny was traumatized, but it did not die when I was still helping it. At that point I wasn’t sure if the mom was done feeding her babies (as in her bunnies were old enough to take care of themselves) but I still don’t think the mom would just stop coming if one of them passed away.

sapphicserenity okay. I’m so worried about the lil babies in my yard, a mama decided to make her nest right by my front porch and my dog isn’t even allowed out front anymore for another week or two so they can grow. They are so fresh and tiny I hope the mama comes back so bad
@artificialvibrance
@artificialvibrance 4 жыл бұрын
Aimee Peltz the most common time the mom feeds her babies is at dusk and the amount of time she feeds them is very short, but yeah keeping your dog away is a good idea. The amount of weeks the babies will be in your yard is kind of weird, because once the babies are becoming adventurous and looking around and leaving the nest, they will still be coming back to the nest for feeding time. It might be 3 or 4 weeks that the bunnies will be there.

Thanks for this video! I watched a black snake regurgitate a wild cottontail bunny in a rabbits den on July 9th. Thanks for this vid. My Newfoundland found a baby with his eyes closed. He (the pup) would not leave until I walked out to see what he found. I walked my entire yard looking for a nest but could not find anything so we found your vid and have been caring for the little rabbit. Fortunately I work from home so it has gone well. The little guy gets his 4 meals a day plus water, alfalfa, lettuce, spinach, and cale. His eyes are open and he seems very strong. The Newf keeps an eye on me to make sure I'm not hurting his new friend.

Thank you for creating this video! I found some baby bunnies under my house! So I took them to the NSW rescue vet and they said that the bunnies look fine they are only a little bit dirty!😁😄😄 I found out also that their mother was my bunny!!! So of course I took them in! Now I have 6 baby bunnies and 1 bunny that I didn’t know was a mother! We have no idea where the father is but now they are about 3 months old ,nice and healthy, I also have a dog and he is keeping them warm in their little coop by sleeping behind the mother(I called her daisy) My dog was tested to see if he would be tempted to eat a little guinea pig, baby bunnies,ect. But all he did (I expected him to stay where he was and not move) was lay down next to them and occasionally lick them

Just yesterday this video once again was a gift from the universe! I found five baby rabbits yesterday afternoon and of course I brought them home. Their nest was in disarray and I figured mama would not be coming back. After doing some Google search, going to Petsmart and grocery store with zero success, I decided to Research on KZbin And came across this video. I was ready to do what it took to save them. Realistically speaking, it would be a challenge to raise five baby bunny rabbits. I have two very curious and active Westies at home. Just wanted to keep them alive until I found somebody who could take them. After a couple of phone calls, A wild rescue group recommended that I reach out to Desiree. To my big surprise, she was only about 10 minutes from my house. But I didn’t realize the “Desiree” I was recommended was the same lady from the video. What a beautiful experience it was to drive into her home and recognize the garden displayed in this video! It was just amazing. It warmed my heart to see the universe works in beautiful ways even when we don’t realize it. I’m grateful for people like Desiree, who are committed to saving the beautiful creatures of this world. And I’m grateful to you, who have made this video, which has helped so many people, and now myself! 🙏💛🐰💛🙏🐰🙏

My cat just recently brought one home. There was a little blood, cats have a bacteria that can kill the bunny within 24 hrs. So I rushed him, or her, to our vet, who never turns down an animal and they took it in right away. I used to be a volunteer with the wildlife rescue. It was busy all the time. My specialty was chimney swifts. Interesting little birds.

Aww man.. 😔 I tried to save a baby rabbit that was stuck on the road and couldnt hop the curb, and was pretty far from anywhere that any nest would be. I was on my way home from work so i scooped it up and tried to syringe feed it water but it got so stressed out that it had a heart attack in my hands.. It actually really hit me hard seeing an animal die like that, but it made me realize that I needed to do a lot more research in order to do actually help the animal, and not do more harm instead. I saw a baby bunny being attacked by a cat last night while I was driving home. I pulled over and shooed the cat away but it was relentless and kept coming back and the baby was screeching. It went under my car and that’s when I saw it had a puncture wound. Looked around for other bunnies or a mama and no sight of one- but with the cat relentlessly coming back I was scared to leave it. I wrapped it up in a blanket and took it home and called a few wild life rescues (it was 2am so none were really answering). Finally I got a hold of one that told me all the rescues nearby are overwhelmed with birds from Newcastle disease and if he came to pick it up, it would probably end up being euthanized 😭 and told me the best thing to do is put him back in the wild- preferably in my backyard (I was at a friends house who has 2 dogs so we put it in the front yard instead). And if the bunny was still around and alive in the morning he would make some calls and see if anyone could come pick him up 😭😭 I’m feeling so regretful that I didn’t just look up this video last night instead of letting him go!

@@Madara___ that's great! I've been keeping an eye for the last few days on two of them that I discovered are right in the middle of my back yard lawn. And I worry because they're not even in any kind of a nest. Just ground level, with nothing at all covering them. So I began reading up on them and watching videos because I didn't know if they were orphan. And then yesterday it fucking snowed and blew cold winds and ice pellets and I was worrying about them all day while at work. Then I got home and found them still there huddled together and breathing, but with snow all around them and still falling on them. So I took a 4 foot square of cardboard and bent it into a little arch over them and tried to put a little more dead grass around them for insulation and I even partially covered them with a dish cloth. I don't want to scare of their mother with any of this, but I couldn't just leave them exposed in the elements. And now today I have no clue whether or not she's been around. But I just recently checked on them again and they're still alive. They just look so vulnerable and defenseless. I don't know what to do or think...

The mom probably didn’t abandon the bunny’s.. baby bunny’s dying is normal in the nest. The mother comes back for 1-2 hours to feed them a day. If the nest has been tampered with the mother will automatically abandon them assuming they are dead and it’s not safe to be there. The mom always gets rid of the dead bunny’s once they come back, they will eat the dead bunny’s or bring them far away to make sure predators don’t come to the nest from the small. We waited about 36 hours for the mom to come back, but since the nest was disturbed...we doubted that she would come back. Tonight is their first night in the garage. We have them in a small box with bedding and a cover over it. They look to be about the same age as the rabbits in the video. Thank you so much for sharing this. This will definitely help with feeding them. Last night was a pain to get them to feed. I didn’t know that rubbing their tummy could help calm them. I will definitely try that. Just saw that you commented back. (: However, all three bunnies made it! We ended up taking them to a local wildlife rescue. They were all very dehydrated and weak. We just didn’t have the tools to help them. Fortunately, they were rehabilitated and released within a month. The rescuer said that they wouldn’t have made it another night. So, I’m glad we found them & got them the help they needed!!!

My mom was digging around in one of her potted plants yesterday and found a small litter(2?). We left them alone but feared that since the nest was torn up, that the mother would abandon them. I discovered one of the babies outside our door today and tried to put him back only to find him right back at the door later. I’m not sure where the other(s) went or exactly how old the one I have now is, but I have him set up in a cat carrier with alfalfa hey/water and will be eyeing him throughout the night.

My youngest dog sadly found a nest & killed the mom, however he surprisingly gently picked up the kits one by one & brought the in the house, I’ve been taking care of them for the last 3-4days because we only have one animal officer in the area & they aren’t on call till tmw, I’ve grown attached tho & I know giving them up would be best but I really wanna keep them or atleast one. I refused to leave them alone & let nature take its course so I went out the night I found them & got kmr to feed them & have been feeding them twice a night like their mom would’ve, besides that they kinda just chill alone in a box/nest I made them with warm fluffy blankets to somewhat resemble the fur their mom would’ve lined the nest with. Please note I’ve had rabbits in the past but that was years ago & never had them this young, also I’ve done a ton of research with all different sources to get as much info as I can. So far they’re all doing great, all eating, etc. their eyes are not open yet & they barley have any peach fuzz fur so I’m assuming they are only 5-7days old. Any tips, opinions on what I should do, etc. would be great!

I'm late to this but my boyfriend found a nest in our backyard, we live near an alfalfa field. I got home and heard them screaming and seen a mole attacking them, two didn't make. I've never seen anything like that before, this mole literally ripped them apart. Now we have 6 bunnies, one has a laceration on the top of his nose and across his back foot but it's gotten better since yesterday. Now I have to go find supplies to feed them. They look identical to these ones in the video though, eyes hardly open with their ears back. Good luck everyone!

One thing I didn't see mentioned in this video or any comments is that like other baby animals they will need stimulation/assistance going pee. They can pass droppings on their own but not peeing. Also probiotics are a MUST acidophilus is the best found at drug stores or ask your vet! Hope this helps🖤

Careful not to give bunnies too many carrots. I just recently learned that carrots actually aren't that good for rabbits. My sister has been a vet tech for about 2 years now and she told me that not long ago. You're actually supposed to give rabbits leafy green vegetables instead.

I had a baby bunny have 2 cuts on them today. We disinfected it safely after doing research on it, and now it is eating, drinking, and walking around its enclosure to forage for greens, its ears are normal height raised, and we think it’s 6-7 weeks old, and female, we named her Sammy and we she wasn’t even in shock when we got her, we are making her an outdoor based cage that has tiny holes and a bottom to make sure nothing digs in, (the bottoms underground so she can eat the grass), she’s doing better and hopefully her cage is finished soon.

I am in a bad situation with baby bunnys. We found them a few weeks ago. There use to be 7 but now there are only 3. 3 died from my cat and 1 died because they were the runt. The 3 that are left all have their eyes open and are about the size of my hand. This morning I found that my dad had let the cat outside, they were all scattered. I found two that were both alive and uninjured and returned them to the nest, but I can't find the third one and can't find a body either. So now I'm just waiting for the mother to come and hopefully draw the last one out of hiding. The mom has been coming back constantly at dawn and dusk.

my husband rescued one that was about 2 weeks old at most and pretty dehydrated. We had to calm him and get him to trust us and then eventually only thing he took was shredded carrot. Once we found kitty milk replacement at PetSmart( you can find it at any pet store!) he was feeding well and had so much energy. Keep trying they will start drinking better and better! I just used a tiny piece of cotton ball so he'd suck the milk out if it but the next day I was using a syringe without the nipple bcs I don't have it yet and that worked real good. but I do think the nipple gives you better control so we're getting one at tractor supply co. You can research the exact amounts and all the diff options but since the milk replacement (liquid or powder) is essentially *dead ( it lacks enzymes and probiotics) you'll have to add in a probiotic and since their momma's milk is high in fat you'll have to add in some fat too. IM NO EXPERT and we've only had him for 3 days but I did all the research I could and he's only been improving and we pray it stays that way.
