I agree, research is the most complicated part of our introduction to practices.

Yeah definitely and it can unfortunately be such a barrier for some people!

Research = down the rabbit hole (I find)! When researching something that is a new topic for me and I know very little to nothing, I use Wikipedia as a source to learn some key words or phrases and very general overview and then take those key words or phrases and their list of references and go from there. Thank you for another great video. I love the education you provide.

I love your point on social media. While I’ve only recently started communicating with others via social media, I don’t personally use this for academic purposes. Overall, as an older witch, I really enjoy this. It’s great for all not just beginners.

One of the best things about being a witch for me is learning about different practices, history. Etc. Knowledge is power.

This is the first video on researching that actually helped me. I'm used to study but researching things like these can be a bit overwhelming. Thank you for your amazing work!

My suggestion is to also research any language and stories of the culture you're working in. So if you are working in British traditional Craft, look into little strange sayings and stories about church graveyards. If you're wanting to learn Italian witchcraft, learn Italian and the sayings in that language, and so on. But keep in mind that even in the older sources, there are often questions of authenticity, such as Aradia the Gospel of the Witches (great source of inspiration - probably very little historical fact). This is easier to avoid in practices where it's understood that the practice had to be passed on in code and there is academic sources, such as the Norse and Celtic traditions, but for smaller traditions like Basque witchcraft, there are so few sources even on the meaning of the mythology that your only option is a completely scholarly and ethnographic approach.

Ari, what happens when there isn't very much information to research ( especially when the orthodox church destroyed all of the information ,or it wasn't written down)?
@paperstorycraft3 жыл бұрын
Do you have more information about writing out the information? I’m wanting to write it all down but I jump from one book to another without completing one fully. I’m not sure how to write it all out.
@TheOakWitch3 жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure what you mean by write it all out, sorry. If you are studying one topic, say for example plant magick. You could divide the information into subcategories, such as: botanical information, ecology, folklore, magickal correspondences, medicinal usage - and then a section with your own personal practices with that herb or plant. If you have a personal example, perhaps I could help you a little better?

But I know I’ll be focusing on Green witchery the most for now but I don’t want t be just a Greenwichery will be just be my main thing but I will do everything of each so I don’t want to do specifically just do Greenwich witchery right now
@TheOakWitch3 жыл бұрын
So the term "Green Witch" is mostly an aesthetic label. Terms like this, and "Sea Witch" and "Cosmic Witch" are not real traditions within Witchcraft. So you don't have to feel like you can only do "Green Witchery" as Witchcraft in general incorporates the use of herbs or plants. Hope this helps?

what about reddit?
@TheOakWitch3 жыл бұрын
I'm not quite sure what you mean by this question, but I'm going to guess that you're asking about the reliability and trustworthiness of Reddit as a site to research witchcraft? Reddit is the same as the rest of the social media networking sites. You can't guarantee that any of the information posted by random people you don't know is creditable or accurate, so it shouldn't be your primary (or even secondary) source of information.
