Thank you for this, you have the soul of a teacher and your channel is just what I needed to find. I started a channel this week to follow my journey/struggles with my cPTSD recovery. I have no idea if that's a good niche but it's certainly something I'm passionate about. I don't have all the answers but if I can help others which at the same time helping myself, it's a win win. Keep up the good work and I will be watching this video many times.

@@AlexaSaarenoja Thank you for the reply. I'm currently sitting at less than 10 subs, all people I know, but beleive it will grow. Men between 40-65 are the highest demographic for suicide and I am hoping I can reach some of them to simply say "hang on, don't make a decision you can't reverse". Let them know there are people that understand and want to help.

Love all the research. I guess the question is, Where do you draw the line as to what niche might be bad? Like if the views for videos in a niche only averages 1k, but then you see an outlier video that got 40k views. I feel like in some cases you can figure out based on average RPM's what a channel might be earning through tube buddy... but, when do you decide to stay away? I mean obviously low competition is great, but low competition and low earnings potential less so.

Yes I would say if it is really hard to find channels in your niche or hard to find content in general or if the keywords don’t reveal any autofill options. It could be a good indication that the market for that niche is not sustainable on KZbin.

Super proud of the work you are doing! You bravely jumped in and we are all learning from YOU 😊 This IS helpful.. in my case, it might be a bit trickier to decide. My niche isn’t massive, there’s a handful of creators who dominate, at least from what I can tell. But I’m wondering if there’s opportunity to see a hole in the content and for me to step in and fill that hole? I know my knowledge is relevant and fresh BUT, is that too big of a risk for me… I have my professional experience for my niche 1 option and I have my passion experience for niche 2 option. Niche 2 is much more popular and lots of content creators. I would really have to make stellar content and be super consistent and deliver a fresh way of presenting for it to take off I’m guessing. Argh! Idk! I will use your tips here to research more and see if I can make a decision. 😅❤

Thank you Alexa, great content, this is really helpful! I have a dilemma with my chosen niche, polyamorous relationships. I'm a member of my niche audience, so I know them pretty well. When I do a search for KZbin videos now, some of the top videos are from 3 - 5 years ago. There are a couple of channels that have put out content within the last year or so that have a decent view count, besides those channels, the average age of videos in the top 10 is 3 years or older. However, there are some shorts videos that are recent as within a few months that have a high view count (do shorts count?) My dilemma is that when I talk to my community IRL, there is a demand for content and advice. Even Google Trends is saying that the niche is growing in popularity. Do I just trust what I'm hearing from my community in real life and go ahead with putting out content on KZbin and rolling the dice, or should I go back to the drawing board and choose another niche? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I think you could go for it. Especially if it is trending upward. You might just need to find other keywords for saying the same idea to find more videos or people searching for it. Maybe they don’t know that word or would describe it differently. Here are some alternative phrases or terms that can convey the idea of being polyamorous: 1. Non-monogamous 2. Ethically non-monogamous 3. Consensually non-monogamous 4. Open relationship 5. Poly 6. Multi-partnered 7. Relationship anarchist 8. Plural relationship 9. Non-exclusive relationship 10. Multiple loving relationships Hope it helps! 💜💜

This was very helpful Alexa... thanks for sharing. When building your channel, did you (and do you still) promote your KZbin channel outside of KZbin like on other social media platforms or websites or has your growth all been from organic reach only within the KZbin platform itself?
@AlexaSaarenoja
@AlexaSaarenoja 21 күн бұрын
I haven’t promoted it at all actually. I was a little embarrassed to say I was going for it on KZbin to my network. So all organic. I recently updated my links on my linked in and Instagram but didn’t say anything about it. I’m waiting till I’m at 10k subs before I promote it…not sure why, but that’s how I feel at the moment. 😅💜

@@AlexaSaarenoja That's fantastic growth given it was all organic. As far as the reaching 10K subs first before announcing goes, I completely get where you're coming from. Keeping doing your thing... very inspiring.

Thanks for this, Alexa. I had a thought for a possible video for you (I know I would appreciate it). Do you think you could walk us through some examples of researching a niche that you would determine is NOT a good one to pursue? Like, what would this process look like if it led you to determine that a niche is not worth pursuing? I have researched some niches in the past that I didn't find results as easily as something like fitness, but it was difficult for me to know when to make the call that it was not a good niche to follow, or if I just wasn't doing a good job of researching it.

Hey Alexa, what do you use to edit your videos? I do basically unedited, raw style of talking-head videos, but it can sometimes take me 2 hours to edit a 10 min video into a 5 min one, as I have to cut out the long pauses or mess ups. I wanna speed up my editing process.
@AlexaSaarenoja

I use iMovie and edit them or manually, but a lot of my subs use dscript. I would check that out because it specializes in exactly what you are talking about. 🙌

Do KZbinrs speed up their videos, or does everyone just talk super, super fast? It's super easy to digest, so I'm not knocking it at all. I'm just wondering about that. I've Googled it before, and I don't see much written there about it. When I make mine, should I find a way to speed them up? And why, I wonder?
