Everything he said is absolutely correct. There is one issue he did not discuss! You also should add compressors oil if you see an oily substance around a/c components. All compressors require a specific type of oil and a minimum amount!

Seen compressors fail in the past and it’s damn expensive. I replaced every component of the AC system in a 2002 Audi A3 and it was hundreds of pounds even with after market parts.

Lou, I really enjoy your videos. I have learned a lot. Especially about my W211 E500 airmatic system. But my problem now is my A/C system. It will blow ice cold air and will work just fine. Then occasionally when I stop somewhere for an hour or so and then start up to go the air conditioning only blows warm air. Then I can drive a few blocks, pull into a parking lot, shut the engine off. Then when I start it back up. Usually it starts blowing ice cold air again. What would be the culprit with these symptoms? Basically, take it to a pro shop. The average DIYer does not have a professional A/C machine in their garage nor the advanced Mercedes diagnostic tools. So, essentially, you have to take it to a shop that has these tools. This video, albeit helpful, is more educational than practical for the average person.

You can get your car scanned at a parts store or buy a scanner. I have an almost pro level mercedes scanner i bought for 200. You can buy cheaper ones. And you dont have to flush it. Of COURSE a shop suggests you have to use their machine

Valve cores. #1 leak. That and the pressure sensor.

Yes if the EC button will not turn off. Means there’s a code stoppin it from working.

Which vehicle? They all have a sticker in the engine bay showing the charge for the ac as well as the freon type and oil. Unless someone removed the sticker.

Hello my friend, I cannot answer that, so many variables. Parts source, shop labor, experience of the person doing it, labor time guide they choose to use. If youre talking valve stem seals, thats big money as it takes a LOT of time and definitely gonna take a skilled tech to do the job on the car.

@@MasterTechLou Yes, valve stem seals. If I can just get the book time on it. 8 hours? 16? When folks see V12, all interest in working on it disappears.

Looks like valve covers are 4.5 then add time for the seals so most likely closer to 8.

@@Kenneth-ts7bp nitrogen is a newer way of checking for leaks but in my experience its only viable if the system will lose vacuum within 45 min,if it does not then uv dye and sending the customer away over the weekend and recheck on monday is what we do.

I find that my a/c works fine for daily driving but have experienced problems with cooling after driving long distances. I travel from Buffalo to Hilton Head Island and along the way my cold air just stops. After I drive without the a/c for awhile it does work again for a short while again. My drive is 13 to 14 hours. What would explain that happening? Thanks so much for your expertise.

Depends on the car, but the evap is freezing most likely. We had an issue with W211 E-Classes that we had to add a resistor to the evap temp sensor to make the ac compressor kick off before the evap got to freeze up.

yes most likely, but can also be a failed ac control unit those were common too. you will need a scanner to check codes.

Keith, peruse my videos, you will see all sorts that I have been reviewing, my favorites are the A30M, and the Xtool. however I do have a thinkscan max 2 that is crazy good, and a launch CRP919e? that is insane. all under 400$ at the right time on amazon. if you dont want bidirectional control then 200$ and under are the way to go.

Very good explained. In a W221 there is a Drying Bottle front left side at the wheel. When doing a AC-service is the water that may be in that bottle pulled out by the vacuum or does this bottle needs to be replaced after some years? (After 15 years I had never to replace it. AC still works...never had a problem. Service done 2 years ago..only a few grams were filled up and with it the UV oil just to be save when there would be a problem in the future.) I have the one with additional font AC.

Correct the vacuuming for 45 min dries out the canister. The only time you are supposed to replace it is if the system is opened.

@@davidcarter3066 depends on setting youre using sometimes. Also depends on outside temp sensor readings, evap readings, sun sensor readings, should be easy to fix if it’s consistent

@@noahmurillo6048 I mean the stop leak in the radiator has nothing to do with the ac. In your model we had an issue with the alternator pulley causing the ac compressor break away faceplate to break causing no ac. So have your local dealer check that out.

Master Tech Lou, thx 4 the excellent videos! On my S55 I get a " no com" on my A/C module scanner. I clear codes both thru scan tool and the hidden way by pressing AC buttons together. Yet the AC works! What's going on here??

Thanks! If you cannot communicate with the ac module with a scanner, then youll need to remove the ac panel and check the CAN wiring for voltage. Also try another different brand scanner. A module can still work but not have communication depending on the module. Ac module doesnt need to really communicate with anyone to work.

that is not always true. What if you have a code such as B1010-001 which is low voltage to control module that is not going to work.

update: swap the valve and the cold and warm air is fluctuating. Let it idling for over 30min or so the temp got steady cold and is now reading 48F in the vents before 114F. Took my nephew 3 hours to change it out in my Benz.

Local mech. replaced engine C300 _2015. W204. He was informed A/C not gettin' cold. He said I could drive it like that it maybe ,coolant temp. Sens was bad. I did drive it with Cabin control off. A mth.later. Outside temp 80's ,,windows up , yeah stupid me. Engine light is now on. His Master OBD Reader is limited. With all the sensors involved in emissions,A/C etc. Is dealer better equip to fix this problem ? Or is local best choice bcz he put in the engine? Depends on his scanner model and his experience . Ac wont cause check engine light and check engine light wont affect ac. Unless coolant temp sensor or outside temp sensor is in accurate however you would know by the dash readings.

Once again, Lou knows his shi*t! Just outa curiosity, my W208 and C140 both have the Eco lights on. On my 99 C140ik ow the gas is low, but on my W208, the compressor won’t even engage. I did find, however, a ground wire that’s coming off of the compressor that’s connected to my chasis. That wire is stripped and not connected to the compressor. Could this ground be the reason why compressor doesn’t cycle?

Thank you, and yes in most cases The compressor clutch is grounded to the compressor and the compressor is grounded to the engine.

But the ground wire that may come from the compressor bolt to the chassis is just for grounding of the engine in general. Eco light thats solid means there is a code that is preventing the system from working.

The need for a special scanner is irritating, i use an external 5 euros pwm generator to bypass the shitty reset method. Maybe in the future , after the summer, I shall replace some shit but you don't mess with the AC in the car

@@MasterTechLou well far as i can tell my mercedes was sitting for a year give or take i put a ton of money in it and a transmission it runs beautiful with only 117000km but where i live its real hot in the summer, i checked all over online, the sensors might be bad or just dirty but the redlight stays on by default if theres any issues, im sure its a dirty sensor i've been daily driving it for a year now and it still runs great,but im gonna need that ac fixed i'll definatly let you know what happens when i take it to the garage, could just be dirty (i hope atleast lol)
