Greetings, I previously had a HL-3170 and these instructions worked more than once. Thank you. I have since upgraded to the new HL-L3270CDW and the buttons have been replaced with a touch screen. The same steps DO NOT work on the new model. Do you have any insight on how to bypass the empty toner message on the HL-L3270 CDW. Thanks in advance.

I've reset an aftermarket black toner cartridge twice using these instructions. It still prints perfectly. I understand wanting to protect the drum, but these modern printers are an absolute joke. Literally demands you throw your money in the garbage.

Read recently that some Brother printers have an option to pick to "Continue" using the toner after low toner warnings. It is called enabling "Toner Continue Mode" and is available on at least these models: Mono Laser Printer, HL2220, HL2230, HL2240, HL2240D, HL2270DW, & HL2275DW.

Good morning, I tried to carry out this process on my hll3240cdw, but when I try to enter reset mode, it stays blank, nothing appears, as if there was another command missing. Would you know how to reset the cartridge on this machine?

I can’t find yours yet but looking. Maybe try this? Reset process 1) Open the printer front cover 2) Simultaneously Press “Secure Print” and “Cancel” 3) Display shows K-TNR-STD or K-TNR-STR (The first letter indicates the colour, In this case K means black. The last letter indicates the toner cartridge model - STD means TN-230 and STR indicates starter cartridge without any name or code) 4) Pressing "+" select the toner cartridge type and colour you want to reset 5) Press "OK" and wait few seconds 6) Press "Cancel" 7) Close the printer front cover. Now printer is ready for printing.

@@victorypromotion , I've already tried this method, it's the same for the HL-L6202DW and the HL-3170CDW, but for the hll3240cdw, it didn't work, so far I can only identify that it responds to your method (but the display is blank), and the reset command configuration (go + back and then back), if you press "secure + cancel or secure + go, it will give the message "no data stored" Anyway, thank you very much for your attention, I have a dcp 7065dn and it has never caused me any problems with a meter lock message, I bought the hll3240cdw thinking it would be the same, but unfortunately not.

Don't know if you still monitor this or not..but if you do. I have been resetting my HL-3170CDW cart. for a while but now when I open the cover and press the cancel/Secure I get a "no data stored" or just "cover is open" message instead of the option to select a cart to reset. Do you know what might cause that?

I would like to know as well. Been trying this for 30 minutes and only get "No Data Stored". The only Reset menu I can find only has a Factory reset and Network reset.

@@TortureBot Mine eventually went to the proper menu but I don't know what did it or if I will have this problem next time I reset a cart. I had to buy a new printer cause I had some stuff I had to print, I got the newer version of this printer the HL-L3270CDW. AH Brothers has removed the ability to reset toner. Keep your 3170 running as long as you can, a much better printer than the 3270.

AH I GOT IT! Have to pay close attention to what he does from 14 seconds to 25 seconds (with cover ajar!). The last video I watched showing this left out the pressing of CANCEL with SECURE. That other video only said press "SECURE" You HAVE to press CANCEL at that same moment to bring up the toner resets!

I can't get my printer to recognize the yellow. I just replaced the cartridge and it worked for a while, but now says empty. there is no way I could have gone thru that much yellow toner.......is there a way to determine if there IS toner in the cartridge? It's a generic cartridge.

ssarge2 I’m not sure how to know how much ink is in there except that your copies won’t look right. You can reset that cartridge following the steps in this video. You can reset an empty cartridge too but it won’t print well. Shaking the cartridge sometimes helps get more life out of them too.

I think I figured out the issue. I hadn't cleared the print buffer so the reset didn't work and wouldn't bring up the yellow to be reset. Once I hit 'cancel' and followed your directions - all of the appropriate steps worked. the yellow cartridge now shows as full and the printer prints again. I am also low on the other toners and will be replacing them. Is resetting them in this manner a required step? I don't recall having to do that the last time I replaced them. At least I now know how to do it. Thank you for your advice and your quick response.

Didn't work. Have gone through the prcess multiple times. Resetn all versions of Yellow - still says No Toner. About to take a hammer to this printer. I hate it.
